warn winch on cl need advice

He wants too much for it to be worth it aside from the nostalgia. The parts are very interchangeable with 8274s though, and you could put a brake pawl and update to several different power in/out motors to my knowledge. My biggest complaint would be the mechanical controls. I want something I can run from in the cab if I'm recovering myself, or at the bumper if I'm just anchoring someone and don't actually need to be struggling to hear people.

Grant on bgreen's board is very knowledgeable on these.

On a side note, check out Gigglepin winches. I was doing recovery with a guy running one on his buggy at the Stampede race last month. That thing was a monster.

Do they even sell parts for that one? That looks like a predecessor to the 8274.

What was it, the ad is deleted all ready? One of these?

That link says registration required, but when you try to register, it says registering is disabled.....what gives?

...somethin's goin' on with Brook's board right now it appears. It was working this afternoon. Give it a bit, he's probably updating vbulletin or something.

The CL ad was for a Bellvue winch, the original design that Warn bought for the 8274 (and eventually the company). It's the same winch but with a different motor (no power out), mechanical controls, and an external brake band. To my knowledge, you can run the housing with 8274 parts and basically have an 8274. It just doesn't make sense unless you get it real cheap, or you don't mind running the simpler controls. I have a buddy that runs one on his trail rig and is really with it, but he doesn't care about only being able to operate it from in the truck. And the exposed brake thing isn't really an issue in .6% humidity.

Ah the old bellvue winch. Trust me on this, hold off for an 8274. Parts for the old 8000 that you talk about you cannot find parts for anymore as they have been discontinued for years.

I've had decent luck with my 8200, but I've never gotten the power out to work and getting it to freespool witha little load on the line can be a biatch. It does pull like a mother though. and it was cheap.

But I picked up an 8274 last week for cheap, so it is getting swapped in.
