warning light/idiot light

ALso how can i hook up a warning light on my alt, i read somewhere that i need to use the brown wire on a 3 wire alt, is this right?

In the trucks, blazers and burbs You either have gauges or the lights! Not sure if your asking about replacing the gauges with lights or what.
