hi guys,

this is the first time i took the dash board apart... as i wanted to change the A/C switch box... after taking it off a long with the Radio cassette player. i tried to turn the engine on then i just gave a few clicks and everything went dead... was it ok to do such a thing???

i know i was suppose to take the ground battery connection off before doing this...

fuse exploded??

A little more detail would help... which year / model of truck is this? Did you reassemble everything before trying to start the truck?

1981 GMC jimmy, and no i didnt reasemble everything when i tried to start it... that what i think i shouldnt have done

Maybe try hooking it back up???

Just out of curiousity, why are you changing the A/C and heater controls? Are they bad?

The radio shouldn't affect the truck's ability to start--my radio isn't there at all anymore. I can't imagine the electric switch on the heater controls would either.

Either way, if you did something and the truck will no longer start, work backwards until you figure out why.

the switch is bad.. and when i try open or close the Air conditioner.. the switch just slides back and forth.. seems its just loose from the inside.. will fit it back on tomorow...

when you took off the negative battery cable, did you put it back on nice and tight? sounds like a batt connection to me.

I've driven around missing all kinds of different parts of the dash (gauges, radio, a/c & heater parts). Haven't found anything it needed yet. How's your wiring? You might have pulled a loose wire, disconnected a ground, and caused a fuse to blow.

thats exactly what i think happened..

Good Luck. Depending on how hacked up your wiring is, tracking down those kind of things can be a PIA.
