I bought a 90 K5 that i was told was owned by a city police department from 1990-2004. I cant find any specs for this truck. I have found it has a 12 bolt rear and I'm wondering what else different it may have. Any help would be great. I also should state that is truck looks to be stock and never modified. YET

Was it on CL back in Feb Or March?
If that's the one I'm thinking of it has black rally wheels and a spotlight on the window frame. The "Interceptor" badges looked like they were taken from a Crown-Vic. If so the consensus was that it was just a stock Blazer with some badges stuck on. Post up some pictures when you can.

Quite possibly special order but I doubt anything out of the ordinary from the factory. Crown Vics are the same way.....heard a guy at the tire shop awhile back talking about the supercharged engines they had:rolleyes:

If it does indeed have a 12-bolt rear axle I would bet money it was swapped in sometime later in it's life. 12-bolts haven't been in production since the early 80's so pretty unlikely it came out of the factory in '90 with one.

I'll second the fact that the 12 bolt is not from the factory. If the cops could have ordered them that way, i bet the military would have gotten their blazers with 12 bolt rears also.

You can post pictures and we can tell you, an easier way would be to count the number of bolts that hold the diff cover on :deal:

I'd say the guy's full of poo. At most some police department bought some and used them like they use Tahoe's now. But I'd put my money some previous owner just wanted to slap badges on it, and through the years the axle went bad and they just happened to find a 12 bolt to put on it.

My CUCV has a 10 bolt, and if that black one picture was a cucv at some point, it can all be changed out. The grill and brush guard look like a CUCV, but not either bumper, nor do they have cut outs for the tow brackets/shackles, and I don't think they came with the plastic air dam on the bottom.

Either way it's a good looking rig, I'd drive it :D

Sorry man no interceptors. Sorry I did not see this one before or I would have let you know sooner. Not to say they didn't have it hopped up from the factory though. I have a 1982 Z-28 Camaro that was supposed to have never been built but have all of the documents and the original photo of it at the dealer. It is a LE and everyone who hears about it says "Oh there is no way, they never made LE's that year". Okay guys think what you will but the car has a factory fiberglass air grabber hood with a 350 and the speedo marks off at 150 with the police package suspension and fast ratio steering. Never knew of any 3rd gen that year to mark off over 85mph. It was destined to be a State trooper car but they fell through on the deal and the dealer called the PO and told him about it as he was a car collector and that is how I ended up with it. The guy sold it to me knowing I would take care of it and appreciate it for what it is. It is painted silver and black and you can see in the original pics where they had marked off the body with paint tape to spray the decals and whatever else on it. I had one guy come by the house to talk to me about restoring his two 69 road runners a few years back and he knew what it was right away. As soon as he saw the Limited Edition door handles he started asking me how much. He wanted to put it in a museum and I should have let it go then as he is no longer around and I can't find anyone else who knows about these cars. Well maybe someday uh? I've tried selling it to pay the medical bills but no one wants to pay what it's worth and I could never afford to list it with Barret Jackson. So it sets in storage and maybe one day my kids will make a bundle off of it. Many of the special order and LE vehicles in the 80's didn't come with a good build sheet. Like the 82 Z28's never came with an option list at all. I had an 81 Jimmy police vehicle from Oklahoma that had a Corvette engine in it and the suspension upgrade. Nothing in the build sheet but it was sure as hell a Vette motor and was bought that way by the cops as I traced it back to them due to the fact that it had the Vette motor and I wanted to know where it came from. So you never know!
