My 14bff and Dana 60 use lug nut size:

9/16 x 18

I BRING a lug nut from my truck into America's Tire to get some new, longer ones for my new rims. The guy wants to know what it came off of.

"1985 Chevy K30 4x4"

He gives me a box of:

14mm x 1.5

They look good and will work, but I did not notice the size, nor would I know for sure that they are wrong. Of course, they are wrong.

Go to Orielly's (because America's Tire is now closed and I NEED them now) I look in their fitment book. Says 5 lug uses XX. 6 lug uses:

7/16 x 20
And 8 lug uses:

1/2 x 20

Wrong. There is nothing in their system that states 9/16 x 18. NOTHING. I am a luck guy to have a REALLY knowledgeable counter guy. He digs through stuff in the back, comes out with some studs, then digs some more and finds some lug nuts. They are 9/16 x 18, just like my stockers. My lug nut fits the 9/16x18 studs. I now know without a doubt, 9/16 x 18 is what I need.

Now to find what doesn't exist. :dunno: My truck is currently on jack stands. America's Tire owns me $$$ for these WRONG METRIC fuking lug nuts. Now I have to wait till Monday, hope I have time after work to head over to 4WP (of all places) and HOPE they have this sh1t in stock.

DAMMIT :flipoff11:

Hmm, completely misunderstood the title. I thought you had spent 2 hours in the lounge..........

1/2 inchers are dodge 3/4 and 1 ton on old body style up to 93 last year.

should of just asked the ck5 guys . . . .

and yes it does suck when some jack wagon ASSumes he is correct and gives you metric when gm didnt use them till 88-up trucks body style.

I remember working at OReillys and all the books we had call for 1/2" lug nuts on 8-lug chevys. Dont know why but they do. I knew that they were 9/16s and just looked through the book till I found some that were the right thread size.

edit: 611-170 is the dorman part number for 9/16-18 duplex acorn lug nuts. They are the deep acorn style lug nuts. Hope this helps.

I have 1/2"x20 thread lug nuts on the Eaton HO-72 axle (1962 vintage) on a chassis I cut down into a trailer--its a 3/4 ton 8 lug, full floater..GM used that size a lot up until the early 70's on many 8 lugged trucks...I twisted 2 of them off pretty easily last time I had tp change a flat..

That is right, I had some on an eaton, and I have them on a D60 rear from a 71.
The newer stuff however is all 9/16":thumb:

I went into a tire shop to get some for my 1/2 ton axles and the guy told me I had 1/2-20. I wasn't 100%, but I was fairly sure I needed 7/16-18. Luckily, I needed new lug nuts on my Jeep which does use the 1/2-20 stuff but I made sure to correct him when I went back to get my 7/16-18 ones. The only reason I went back was because they sell them super cheap, like 1/2 the price of the parts stores for a nice solid nut without the chrome caps that fall off after the first torquing.

thanks for the part number and taking the time to post it, but alas I can't use it. :doah:
The new rims I have run a very deep hole for the lug nut. I can't even get my standard 7/8 deep socket into it, let alone my impact socket. The ones I got from America's Tire would work perfect, except the size is wrong. :doah::doah:

Went snowboarding today. I stopped on the slope and a couple seconds later my brother crashes into me. He laid it down just before he hit me, took my legs out, and I went flying. Got a bruise on my back/side. F work Monday. I'll be on a lug nut hunt instead...... among other things. :doah::doah::doah:

you want what thay call tunner lug nuts and thay are spline drive on the outside with a key . thay work on the small lug hole rim styles.

like these http://www.ebay.com/itm/9-16-Spline...Parts_Accessories&hash=item3373b24fd5&vxp=mtr

 I replied to this post, or at least I thought I did. Dunno what happened.

Anyway, these are exactly what the tire place gave me, but in metric sizing. The lugs fit perfect in the rim. Thanks for posting. Now I know what they are called. :waytogo:

I can relate, took me 2 trips to partsource and about 1.5 hours of my time

Last time I bought lug nuts, there were 2 different styles. Both 14x1.5, but one had a slightly bigger bevel on the end. So i took the smaller beveled ones(only had 13) but that would get the truck mobile around the yard. Went back a few days later, well turns out they gave me those nuts priced as the ones with the bigger bevel. Now get this, you'd think the one with the smaller bevel would be cheaper. Nope, it was 5.50 and the bigger bevel was 2.99. So now I have 2 slightly different types of lug nuts on the sierra :haha:,

I feel your pain. Even if the database is correct, which sometimes it is not, the silly software just believes that every vehicle has the stock wheels on it. They come up with a part number and then you say "OK, how about the deep version" and there is no path to go anywhere. You can say "9/16 acorn", but there is no look-up that way.

Now try finding another thread size stud that will fit in the same hub. Either way, you end up digging through the drawers, so it's best to just start there.
