Do any of you have experience with water leaking in through the tailgate seals, then onto the floor inside? Even after replacing the window felt and all the rubber seals? (for the tailgate)
I’ve been fighting this issue for years , but still can’t seem to tackle it completely. Just hoping there’s someone out there in Blazer land who knows exactly what to do??

-thank you!!

What did you use for replacement seals?
i used all new components for rear window (including new inner & outer felts, then I put a layer of rubbber tape the whole length of the tailgate on the outside to kind of further seal gap between outer felt and tail gate, I’ve installed new corner guides from LMC, also have new seals from LMC for the access panel to the motor). the felts are from Precision btw.

There is a little voided area where felt stops in each outer corner, maybe that’s where the water is getting in?? (since for about 1/4 inch near the guides there’s a little hollow opening where felt stops). Maybe someone out there knows where to get felts a bit longer than the ones from Precision?? (Or can relate to what I’m dealing with.. so grateful for any advice!!)

I’ve heard people say it’s leaking inside because the drain holes in the tailgate are plugged, but I have difficulty understanding why there would be drain holes anticipating water in the tailgate because the window motor is in there. . idk i could be wrong. - thanks

yes there are drain holes and you should check to make sure they are clear. The motor is no big deal, most cars and trucks have electric windows these days and all are on the wet side of the door.
You are asking about water intrusion into the rear cargo area, or into the gate itself ?

My guess is the parts from LMC are a big part of the problem. They are not worth the effort to deal with any more and a waste of money. I would recommend getting new seals from Precision or Steele rubber for a better product to start with. I can get you in contact with the Precision dealer local to me that keeps everything you need in stock if needed.

ok thanks very much, as far as the drain holes, I understand they’re near the bottom of course, but can you kinda point me more specifically where to look, and how many i’d be looking for?

The water intrusion is definitely entering the rear cargo area through the tail gate, right out of the bottom portion of the access panel (which I have installed those new foam seals that go w/ it btw from LMC.

I keep the panel off., if I have to drive it in the rain, so I can continue to keep an eye on things.

One guy who worked on it before installed some plastic film on the inside of the tailgate (the same hole for access panel)

And so when I remove the panel, the plastic film is still there, the very bottom inside of the tail gate is totally wet, and then there is condensation on the plastic film as it drips right though the bottom of the panel into the cargo area, then eventually onto the floorboards of the back seat area.

( I’m aware now that the plastic film he used is not meant for much more than a dust cover, even from the factory).

I keep the plastic film on, because I was convinced that i needed it. But if I can somehow verify from you or someone that ran water will inevitably enter into the tailgate shell, then maybe I should just discard the plastic film, and clean out the drain holes?? (or drill some of my own is another thing that has been recommended). But i am reluctant to do this.

sorry so long, thank you!!!

Yes, I would very much appreciate any contact info for Precision , thanks man!

I use Mister A's in Sultan, WA. It doesn't hurt that he is 3 minutes down the road, but he has kept everything needed for a squarebody in stock while every other dealer ran out.
