I do a lot of wheeling that entails many water crossings. How do I keep water out of the front D60? Are there outer tube seals available? Some of my Jeep buddies have outer tube seals for their axles but I have not been able to find any for the D60.

It's a good practice to remove the diff cover after any trip that has involved a water crossing. Water inside a diff will kill parts in short order. Also a good idea to remove and repack wheel bearings as well. I know it is a PITA but short of having to buy expensive parts it's the only sure fire way.

Just to set your minds at ease, I do the proper maintenance after every trip. But, after over twenty five years of removing the diff. covers and repacking the bearings, I am ready to try to keep the water out. Sometimes, I am in the bush for weeks at a time and cannot remove the covers every time I make a water crossing. I have drilled and tapped drain holes in the differentials, so I don't have to remove the cover in the field, but capturing and transporting the fluid (as well as bringing in gallons of new fluid) is a PITA. As for the wheel bearings, some of the people I wheel with have installed zerk fittings in the front hub and just keep pumping grease in there and don't have any problems.

I've never heard of anything, but would like to know if there is something.

Many of the mod bogs have as much water as mud in them.

The inside of the short side tube of my D60 is pretty rusty (much more than the other tube). My theory: that it got packed with mud and didn't get cleaned out for a long time.

I'd be interested in some kind of outer seal if they can be found.
