I yanked my carpet out years ago due to musty smell that was always there. I put down rubber flooring with insulation under it and still had that smell. Well, when I yanked the flooring up to get interior Line Xd the insualtion was wet. So, I know water is getting in somewhere. Well, today I went to car wash to hose off truck from sitting under trees for weeks and seen water coming in on the passenger side. Its coming out from the heater box. I went to a shop and he said that my drain hole/vent is probably clogged with leaves and dirt. I looked (1/2 azzed) and didnt see any drain hole. I know the A/C needs to drop condensation somewhere. Usually there is a short rubber hose that comes out from the firewall and points down.

ANyways. what areas or things should I check? I dont really want to tear anything apart that I dont need to. First thing I was going to do was find the drain hole and then I was going to take the one side of the evap box off, that seems to be the easiest places to start.

ANy suggestions, comments, opinons????????????

well, im pretty sure theres drain holes under the cowl somewhere

but... i used to be a windsheild technician, and i know for a fact that in either lower corner of the windsheild gasket, on the pinch weld, is a drain hole, which is only seen with the window out

have you ever had the window replaced? if you pop a windows cherry, they dont always like to seal right again

if its leaking from here it could mean that the window could be leaking anywhere

sometimes you can see rust bubbling from around the window

dunno... hope this helps

The fresh air intake in front of the windshield should have a drain or two somewhere. Just a matter of finding those and seeing if it's full of ****. I've seen this on several different vehicles.

Every 73-87 I've had leaks at the corners of the windshield...without exception.

Its not the windshield. I just did some testing and tearing apart. I took the cowling off and the plastic thingy that keeps leaves out. I cleaned out all the gunk, even found a cigarette lighter under there. :eek1:, the kind that goes in the ashtray of the truck. weird, anyways. After I had everything off. I dilegently poured water BELOW the windsheild gasket, as to rule out the windsheild all together. Sure enuff its getting thru at the passenger side vent thingy , by the kick panel. I took it apart and did the water test, water poured onto the floor boards this time. So, Im guessing the seal is fubar. Its entacted, just very flat. So, where can I get a replacement for this. ANythings to get a generic one that I could double up, or would that not be necessary??????????? Does anyone know if GMpartsdirect would have this seal and if so, do you have the part number. Im getting ready to place an order with them soon anyhow.

Thanks

I went ahead and got one from LMC, it was 6.95, so we shall see. I went to advance auto and they didnt hve any universal seals and Lowes didnt have what I wanted either.

Not one just to find and fix the problem, I want to understand and learn about it. Im guess that the seal is there for a reason. So Im to understand that its natural by design for water to run down on the otherside of this seal (between body and fender) and then out the bottom? Im just wanting to make sure there isnt any other issues. I seen the big rubber peice around the hinge, but it doesnt look like anything was messed up or is an issue. Now with the kick panel removed and the vent stuff out the way (just a big hole now), when I pour water over the cowling, it pours into the passenger floor boards, I can see it dripping from up top and straight down the hole where the vent goes. The vent hole is further in than where the water comes down, so that is why it pours out of that spot *ya'll following me so far? LoL..

Anyways, I just want to make sure I get this fixed. while I do have LIne X inside, just living with it isnt an option. :D
