Long story short thinking maybe my newerish water pump was out because it was making a noise I pulled the back cover only to find out the impeller was rubbing on the back cover. The impeller was at least .100 way from the housing. The only spec I could find was .012 for a sbc but rebuilding pumps for awhile the .012 seems correct. Maybe that was my heating problem all along.
