I started typing this out as a story and thought you guys might get bored reading it so Ill ask a quick question. When the thermostat is open and you rev the engine up the top radiator hose sucks flat. I think the only way that can happen is if the water pump is running in reverse.

I thought it was impossible to put a reverse rotation water pump for a serpentine on one with vbelts. The weird this is the outer casing is the right one, every thing hooks up like it always has and my water pump pulley bolts on just fine. Is it possible someone from the factory put the wrong impeller in the pump causing it to suck from the wrong side?

Did the first serpentine setups for the small block chevy use the same water pump as the vbelts, just a different impeller? I hope thats what is, I was pretty bummed out thinking my 400 cracked when it was bored. It also doesnt use any coolant.

Please give me good news guys:D:D:D

No, it will do it on a weak radiator hose. The pump will move more water than the thermostat will allow through it. The thermostat will slow the nwater enough so the coolant has time to transfer heat through the radiator as it flows through it. The hose collaspses only when reved, but under normal use it is OK.
New radiator hose will fix your "problem". Sounds like you have a real good pump.

On the top hose tho? I dont think ive ever seen a spring in a top hose on anything, bottom hose yes but never the top one. Even the new bottom hose i got didnt have a spring and that one doesnt collapse. Ive never had a spring in my top hose ever since I had had the pickup. I always thought whatever wouldnt flow through the thermostat would just get cirrculated in the block so the top hose would never collapse. I dunno tho, still baffeled..:(

hmm...good point...i dont think ive ever seen a spring in a top hose either.maybe ur hose is bringing the suck and ur pump is just bringing the awesome and it just isnt working out...im kind of stumped too haha

Those are brand new radiator hoses, took the back off 2 pumps I had and the one i had on my pickup and they are the same. so im stumped. time to take er to a mechanic and have them look at the coolant surging.
