ways to lower a truck??

its a street truck on the low buck...and like i said IM NOT WORRIED ABOUT SLAMMING IT..i just want it lowered a lil bit

front springs rear shackles is the way to go if you just want a simple drop without slamming it or breaking the bank.

well ive heard some stories of bags poping with hard lanches..i dont know how true it is but its just not what im shooting for..this thing is ment to go fast straight im not so worried about slaming it i just want the look of it lowered a lil bit
Well in that case, you may just want to back half it with a 4-link and some coil overs. Then run spindles/coils/or control arms up front

they make drop spindles and blocks as a kit on stylintrucks.com for blazers i think 2 to 4 inches but drop spindles it definetly the way to go

here is the said truck

still running the stock tires (1215/85/16) i had to remove the inner fender wells to keep the tires from rubbing,,,ALL THE TIME.:doah:

Jesus christ man, that tire is 47.83" wide and 97.32" tall. :eek1: A little more than an inner fender well would need to be removed to keep from rubbing. :haha:

sorry, i was unable to get those pics today, was busy with other things, and also had to get a bunch of heavy weight stuff out of the back of the truck anyways to get you an accurate pic of the current height.

nice looking truck, and i am going to say that i think i know about what you are looking for, as that is pretty much the same thing i was looking for, just a "sport look" type of lowering.

I think the 2.5" dropped spindles and the 3/4 cut front coil will do you just fine. as far as the rear, get the longer shackles, i believe the 2.5" are the biggest you can fit under there, and you will most likely still have to notch one of the cross braces under the bed,,,you'll know what i am talking about when you get under there and see where the longer shackle will hit.

i have also seen people (and had one for a short time) remove the front hanger of the rear spring, trim the tops, and relocate them about another inch or so higher up on the frame,,,,this entails alittle bit more work, with relocating holes and or welding the hanger back on the frame, but it does work in the aid of lowering the rear.

i will have the rest of the heavy crap out of the back of the truck tomorrow and get you those requested pics,,, basically if you can envision, the tops of the itres, right where the lip of the fender wells are at, that's about where mine is sitting, still has some suspension movement, so it's not a harsh ride like when they are slammed.

holy crap, did i type that?? fat fingers i guess,,,but i think you know what i meant :D

ok, i finally got those requested pics,,sorry for the delay, just been real busy around here lately, and yesterday i wasn't feling all that great,,,not sure what that deal was,,,but anyways, let's see if i can get these to show up .

this is the "project truck" i bought alittle over a year or so ago, just haven't had the funds to put into it like i would have liked,,,as it sits, it IS driveable, and DID have tags on it for awhile, but the nosey/bitchy neighbors don't like me, so they called the cops on it, and they tagged it and had me remove it from the city street,,,seems it's a "city code" that no vehicle with registered at more than 3/4 ton, is allowed to park on any residential street.

oh, and i didn't realize DMV had sent me an insurance verification form to a wrong address, so they suspended my regs, that's why the cop tagged it mainly, and confiscated my plates...i was PISSED:mad:

oh well, it's in the works to be driveable again.

hey man thanks for the pics...i think i might one the ass end a lil higher and the front a lil lower (mabye like an inch each way) thats how we roll on the east coast...i scored a set of 7 inch shacles this weekend so that should net me??also the frame (it was bare and lowered) had a interesting front spring mount on it..didnt look factory cause it had bolts no rivets should i grab that as well??

i did have the front dropped like you are referring to, with a "rake" to it, i liked it, it looked good, but was alittle too low for "comfort".

so i removed those overly cut coils, and redid some cutting on another set of stockers i had, the first time i had cut a complete coil and a half off, then set them in the buckets so they sat low,,and it did, i'll see if i can find a pic of that i think i have,,,the rears were lowered with the 2.5" (lowering) shackles and several leaves removed from the spring pack, there is about 2.5" of suspension travel before the rubber bump stops hit the axle.

i'm not sure about your "7 inch shackles" not sure if you are referring to the overall length, or what they are claiming to lower the vehicle at, as mentioned before, my 2.5" shackles hit the bottom of the bed in a certain spot as it is, i don't think anything bigger is going to fit...

and i am not sure what you are talking about with the front spring hangers either really,,,i mentioned what i saw on a previous project i ditched, was that the PO removed the front spring hangers, cut the top tips of tha hanger, then rewelded the whole thing back to the frame about 2" higher up,,,they had to cut the tips for clearance of the bed floor.

i'm going to get you apic of the rear spring hanger so you can see what i'm talking about,,,give me a few here...

I really like how that sits. Does BA Barracus know you have his truck?

i was wondering if i was gonna get crap for that,,,I DID NOT DO IT!! :doah:

i was actually trading the truck off awhile back to a friend of mine for a bunch of 4wd drivetrain parts, well he ended up having to move out of state, and couldn't take the truck with him, so i got it back, he did this to it because it's all he had for spray can colors, and the truck had a different colored bed to begin with, so he tried to make it alittle more "presentable"

i wanted to choke him:D

here's a few pics of the rear shackle i was telling you about, you can see how close it is to that bed crossmember support thingy, that technically needs to be notched for the shackle to be able to travel.

you can also see that there were leaves removed, along with the main overload leaf, and that i ended up just cutting the double overload (upper one) because it bottomed out on the limit pads after everything else was done.

this setup is by no means "permanent" just something for a temporary look until i can afford the complete air suspension setup i would like.

I can't seem to find the pic i took of the front when i had the really low springs in there, but it was too low,,,if i had that plastic air dam on there, it would have like 3 inches off the ground.

and that was all done with shackles??thoose are the same shackles i was talking about..they are 7 inchs in overall length

no, look at the spring pack on those rear pics, i removed like 4 regular spring leaves, the lower overload leaf (which is nearly an inch thick) and then had to cut the upper overload, which yours probably doesn't have.

Your suspension most likely does not have that many leaves in it, so you may have to go about lowering it with the shackle and then removing/relocating the front hanger up higher on the frame to get a lower look to it.

the 2.5" lower shackle really won't lower it all that much to be very noticable IMO.

the fronts were done, again, with a 2.5" lowering spindle, and 3/4 of a coil cut then positioned in the bucket to sit in it's lowest position.

it's alittle more work, but i suggest, you get the lowering spindles, go ahead and install those, with the rear shackles, put everything back together, set it on the ground and drive it around the block and then take a look at it to see if that 's low enough for you, if not, then move onto other optiona for lowering further.

I made the mistake at first, with my first set of front coils, of cutting too much, and not enough on the rear, which is why i had to cut my upper overloads, and replace the front coils again with a more mildly cut set.

I think i like it as it is now.
