In case anyone is interested I had to go drop off some metal at the scrapyard today and got my 1974 Blazer on the scales. With no cage or backseat and the factory hardtop on, it tipped the scales at 4,720 lbs. That is with 3/4 tank of gas. I know the scale is pretty accurate because when I got back in the digital reading was 4,940lbs...I know that I am 220 lbs. So there you have it.

Interesting, so a basically stock K5 right? What axles do you have? 1/2 tons still or did you do any kind of swap?

Yup yup, pretty stock. Dana 44 front and 12 bolt in the rear. It has a little lift and bald 35" tires on aluminum wheels. That's it.

wow, I would have figured it about 800lbs lighter. around 3,900 or so. Explains why mine is slower than it should be.

my 72 blazer with half tons weighed 4350 without a top and a 6 point cage.i didnt think the later blazers weighed that much more.

I weighed my 73 at the scrap yard once and it came in at just over 4100 without me in it only a 1/4 tanks of gas and a pretty stripped interior no top no back seat no carpet oh yah and I didn't have the back window in it, well most of it was gone  due to poor loading technique

You know whats funny, my 96 grand cherokee weighed about the same as the blazer, and the Blazer is way bigger in comparison. Interesting

That would be stupid light. My k10 weighs 4k and it doesn't have a bed and has been stripped of everything that wasn't necessary including the stock saddle tanks in favor of an aluminum fuel cell.
If I can get in the 3,900 range you speak of with my fiberglass front end I'll be happy...

Well, the CK5 Blazer spec list says a stock 74 should weigh 3931lbs...

Hmmm...

What do you think a backseat weighs???

That'll be close to 1000lbs. over with a backseat...

Is there anywhere that we can find a spec sheet that has the original stock weights of these pigs???

I'd like to know what the stock weight of my 79 was when it rolled off the show room floor...

I never weighed it before it started getting things thrown at it and cut off of it...

I found some info about the weights but it's going to have to wait till the morning when I get to my work computer. I will post them then. It's crazy how much the weights vary.

I dunno about stock K5 weights, but I just bought a stock '90 K5. I'll run it over the DOT scales once it's empty of all the junk in it and post up here. My old '81 Jimmy on one tons, 39.5 TSLs, 12 point cage, 6.2, 465/205, 10 K Warn winch, and half a tank of fuel was 5940 lbs with me in the drivers seat.

I have scaled my '83 GMC C1500 pick-up though. Full load, long box, 6.2, 700R-4. 4840 lbs. That is with roughly 30 gallons of fuel and myself in it. If you subtract 200 lbs of fuel and my weight the truck itself is about 4490 lbs.

Easily 500-700lbs more than i thought it weighed. :doah:

It would be nice if we had a thread that was stickied maybe, that had true life weights from users with a pic of the rig they weighed... Along with specs telling years and what has or hasn't been done to the Blazer...

EDIT::: I had already planned on posting mine after it gets weighed...

Not a bad idea...it would certainly be more useful than the tech page i think. I should be able to add what a nearly stock '90 weighs.

Maybe I'll start a brand new thread once i do that...then sticky it and try to keep the clutter out so it's an easy reference for all of us.

My 89 blazer with 1 tons, 35's, crossover steering, winch and a roll bar weighed in at 5,880 with a full tank of gas and a small tool kit. I also weighed it front and rear and the front is about 400lbs heavier than the rear.

That would be awesome...

And this is perfect info for showing what was done and what it now weighs...
