Anyone? just a bit of info I wish I had in my knowledge base. Whats a full assembled 4.3 weigh? how about a small block? Next project is an S10 and though I'm likely just puting a 383 in it and rocking it, a 4.3 isn't out of the question.

yeah forget that, 383 /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif twice the torque and only 150 more lbs. Not to mention eventually aluminum heads will shave a little weight.

A big block only wieghs 110Lbs more than a small block /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

now that would be getting crazy in the little s10. I don't need to be doing endos /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

[/ QUOTE ] The 4.3 will suprise you in a light vehicle. I had a 4.3 in a 85 Monte Carlo CL and it'd roast the tires with a quickness. Everybody swore up and down that it was a V-8 till I opened the hood for them. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

my dads 97 2wd S10 with a 4.3 Vortec is crazy fast...now the Vortec 4.3 in my blazer...its a hunk of [censored] /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

My uncle has a 2001 S10 with a Vortec 4.3 with nology wires, K&N intake and a chip and its one quick little truck. He also gets about 25mpg around town.

I like the 4.3's, I have one in my 95 full size 2wd. They are good motors for normal driving but won't take abuse very well. They won't rev as high as a small block and come apart real quick if you try. I bought a 95 Sonoma brand new, it had a 4.3 with a 5 speed and got 2 new motors under warranty.

Isnt a 4.3 the same thing as a small block cut down. Why would the 4.3 be weaker? Smaller mains? Bad oiling?

[/ QUOTE ] IIRC, the 4.3 uses the same bore and stroke as a 350. Just missing a couple of clys. I could be wrong, but I thought it used the same bearings, as the 350 also.

Exactly, so I would think the 4.3 is a tank

You are correct Sir. The 262 (4.3) is nothing more than an abbreviated 350 and also has a medium journal crank. Just as strong as a 350. I would love to see what a stroked 4.3 could do. I have heard that they can be bored and stroked to around 320 ci. I think a built 4.3 would be just fine in an S-10 with the right gears.
