Weight reduction ideas?

I pulled my carpet out last summer to do some repair/mods. Took it wheelin over the 4th of July weekend, I thought the tranny was on fire. Maybe its cooler with a manual? I think my carpet is going back in when I'm done, although it is nice not having to worry about rain.

no its not diff wiht a manual. man i thought i was overheating and my temp gauge wasn't working right. i've had the bottem of my friends shoe start to get soft. i can really feel the heat coming up from the floor. so down here in the summer it sux.

dose anybody know if it will be better with the bed liner in a thick coat will help keep it cool?
 
JunkYardCrawler....I can't tell you yet,but I just finished lining my interior and going with a frt. rubber mat,no top/tailgate,and no A/C.I guess I'll find out around July!!!!I went with a gray color and my seats will be light gray along with the exterior.I love this hobby(addiction!!!!!!!!).
 
swap out your 3/4 ton axles for a 7.5" ten bolt rear, and a steel beam for the front losing the TC at the same time. Swap out your 454 for a 2.8L

LOL, man ya'll are overlooking the obvious, SUBWAY, they claim something like 30 lbs in a month or some BS like that, Give up Mickey D's, sandals instead of boots there's another 10lbs, umbros instead of jeans, there's a good amount, drain about a quarter of your fluids, as long as it runs right, and on the rocks with it sloching around everything should get lubed, figure about 10lbs a gallon there, man were doing good and we haven't even started chopping on the rig yet.

How bout this? convert to 2wd and chunk the front axle, tcase, front driveline. Take the bumpers off. Take the cage out. Take the passenger and rear seats out. Take the KEG outta the back. Hood and front fenders off. Grill off. Tailgate off. Bedsides off. Go back to 28" tires and get aluminum beadlockes for them. AC off.

In my opinion the best way to reduce weight is to get rid of stuff you dont need. How extreme is up to you.

Well, it is a Silverado...

The carpet is still on the shelf in the garage. It is actually pretty heavy, takes up a lot of shelf space too. As much as I like having it, it was nice having it out coming home from Blanca last summer. It poured most of the way, there was one door and no top on the truck, and I didn't care (I was nice and dry in the cab of the pickup). Then I left it out in the driveway like that for a few days, went and looked at it, and there was 3" of standing water on the driver's side. Had to drill a drain hole. I'm debating Herculining it (I think they have red now), but I have a feeling the carpet will go back in. Wonder why my rig is so durn heavy (over 6k w/2 people and trail gear)?

BTW, anyone thats tried wheeling w/a keg knows that it gets way to foamy. I am slowliy loosing my grill, though; and my taigate is rusting away too (kinda like the rest of the thing).

You still have a tailgate? Or do you use the tailgate to help keep the boxsides somewhat straight?

The only thing holding my grill on is the winch. I lost one of the headlight trim jobs, too.

Couldn't use the driver's door, due to new rocker panel on that side.

I did until the beginning of the summer. Finally replaced the 3-piece tailpan I had. It was so bad, when you opened the tailgate (when you could, that is), it would rub the bumper and lift up that corner of the bed. Nice and stiff now, though. Also welded triangular gussets in place to help sturdy the bed sides. To close it, you used to have to push in on the tailgate and the bedside. Nice.

FYI Bummer kits are no longer made. GM filed a lawsuit against them. They are supposed to make a new kit that does not look like the Hummer. I read this on their website.
