I picked up my D60 & 14bFF today. (break, for small cheer) But I noticed something weird about the 14. It has a lot of webbing running down the diff housing. They look like cooling fins. I have never noticed these on any other 14 bolts I have seen. It has much more than the usual 14. Anyone seen one of these critters before? Know anything about why it's like that?

i see them all day long(i work at a chevy dealer). the 14 bolt u have is out of a 90's truck.

Thanks. I figured someone knew. I also thought that it being newer would likely be the case. Works for me I guess. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I think 1988 and newer had the ribs on them. They are the stronger 14ff's

I had two 1 tons. One was an 88 with out the webbing while the other was a 91 with the webbing. So I know it was after 88. BTW both had the stock rear ends.

Heeeyyyy.. the pluses just keep stackin' up. Not bad for $350 w/ a Detroit. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I believe this depends on what truck the axle came in, C/K vs. R/V series. My 91 "V" series does not have the pull off drums, they are held on the hub by the studs just like my old 76 axle was. My axle is definitely original to the truck and it does have the ribs on the housing.

I'm pretty sure the ribbing started in 89, this is the earliest year truck I have seen that housing in.

Hope this works, & sorry for the crappy pic quality if it does work.

Actually, I think on the bottom side, the lip is still taller than the webs, go figure. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif
