Has anyone bolted a half cab topper onto a full convert. for a targa top kinda thing??

i was driving and saw some lowrider blazer with this. looked weird, i'v been tempted to do it w/ my truck however idunno if it will clear the cage?

I have thought about it. Heck maybe I see what it looks like and get a picture when I replace the seals on the Lady's 79.
I recently was given a spare top (still need to pick it up) I'm thinking of cutting out the roof and using a FJ40 Bikini top to cover the hole.

I've been thinking about chopping off the steel front part of my '76 Blazer's roof and doing something like a hardtop convertible setup. You could run it with the front roof latched on like the 76 and up, or full open like 75' and older...the rear top could stay pretty much as is. The main work would be modifying the cut window-fames and weather-stripping and beefing the latch areas of door strikers and beefing the windshield uprights. If you've ever seen a convertible street truck, you've got the basic idea. This would give four different configurations from full-closed top to full roadster, including a targa top.

I would be worried about one particular configuration. The one that has the roof of the cab removed and the rear in place. There would only be the 10 (or is it 12?) bolts holding the top to the bed rails. I would be afraid that the wind would catch under the top and rip it clean off.

With it in the Targa mode, you would want to keep the back window down above a certain speed. The air-pressure buildup would probably pop yer eardrums before the topper ever tore off. There are a lot of bolts and trim-plates spreading out the stresses.

Owning a 75 I can tell you what happens with the wind. It hits the windsheild creates a low vac area over the driver and then creates a high pressure area over the back. So with a soft top the front lifts and the rear pushes down. It would not be a issue there but what might be a issue is it racking from lack of suport at the front. The B piller bars on the full hard tops have lots of Beef like the C piller does on the rear. It doesn't go over the roof it goes foward into the windsheild header. If the windsheind is not bolted in you can push on it and get it to shift side to side.
