Ok so i noticed this clicking noise while driving somewhere this afternoon after school. It got worse and now every once in a while it squeeks really weird sound. I went to my dads took both the back tires and drums off and they look fine and are wearing like normal. So drove it back home and it is still doing the same thing. It only does it at speeds below 30-25ish and especially when approaching or leaving from being stopped. I felt the rear driveshaft and it felt like the u joints were fine(no movement of driveshaft). I had my mom move the truck forward and back to try to hear where the clicking was coming from and it sounded like it was around the transfer case area:confused::doah: this cant be good:( Any thoughts?

First, check the oil levels in everything to get that out of the way. Make sure the transfer case, front and rear end have enough oil.

Won't hurt, and something you should do from time to time anyway.
Next, if you did not do this, check the U-Joints this way.

Chock the wheels, put the transmission in neutral, and try to find some play. If the shaft has the weight of the truck on it, you will not notice any play.
If the joints are grease-able, shoot some grease in.
Even if they are worn completely out with nothing in them but pieces of the roller bearings, the noise should change temporarily.

But, while you are doing that examine the ends of the bearing caps carefully.
If any of them have changed color, or you see marks where they are turning inside the yoke, you have a bad U-joint.

Which is kinda what it sounds like.

X2 :wink1:

K hopefully it wont do any damage driving to school tomorrow:( Now when i check the fluid in the diffs is there a fill hole with a bolt or do i take the covers off? never really looked to close at them but i know they are normal gm 10bolts

The front has a fill plug on the cover. Check that you can feel oil with your finger. The rear is on the pass side of the pinion area I believe. Same check.

Ok looks like it is the U joint on the axle side...I went ahead and got both u joints tho. I had to buy 2 different types and will take back the ones that dont fit. HOPEFULLY auto II at school tomorrow can fix it during there class because my dad said it would be this weekend before we could do it ourselves...

Let me know if this fixes it. I was getting a similar noise in mine. More when I was turning though

If yours sounds like its from the front I would make sure if you have manual hubs that they are unlocked and if they are automatic make sure they are disengaged
