I have no carpet etc just bedliner in my K5, when you start it up and drive you can hear a gear turn noise kinda like a blower motor running but with the gear sound turning. It seems to be from middle of dash area and toward floor. What the hell is it? Driving me crazy and only does it if truck is running. I never heard it till about 3 months ago.
If it drives me crazy wife will certainly complain and not want to ride in it. Any Ideas on this guys?

also check all your fluids diffs transfer case tranny eliminate what you can

Look for something between the motor/trans and firewall that's touching. Maybe dipstick tube etc.

Take your phone and film it and post it for the sound. It my help the diagnosis. In my truck I can hear my Trans, I can hear my TC , I can hear my drive shafts, I can hear my speedo cable, sound travels all around and amplifies when not insulated.

When I had no carpet or rubber mats in my '72 K5,the SM465 I put in it sounded like a scoring noise when it was in neutral with the clutch up..
I was told it was "normal" by several guys,a few who worked as service managers at local Gm dealers also said they wouldn't worry about it..unless it started squealing or grinding..

The gears spinning inside and the input shaft bearing can make that sound and if you had carpet, padding and or a rubber mat,it would be diminished enough not to be so noticeable..the sound never got louder or changed the 8 years I had the truck,so I learned to tune it out..you could hear gear whine in 3rd gear too,not loud, just a mild "turbo" kind of sound...the bare floors are like a giant speaker cone and amplify all the usual noises we dont hear otherwise..
