Ok this is an odd one. My brother got stuck today so i go to pull him out. He's sideways in the road so i had to pull him straight again. It was a pretty good hill so he couldn't go backwards.

Well i hook up and pull her into 4-hi. I get the slack out and start pullin only to sit and spin. So i back up and give a little yank then i spin more. He tells me both my front tires are the only thing spinning. Meaning NO rear tires spinning

Hammer the gas and kinda look out my window and yup just the front. Put her in 4-lo then i feel it kinda lunge and seems like all 4 are engaged. They all pull for a bit then just the front 2

finally get him out with just the front 2 tires and unhook. Then i tell him to watch as i get on it in 2wd. just the back 2. then 4-hiand all 4.

then 4-Lo and all 4 spin. :angry1: what gives?? It has me stumped.

Are you sure the rear tires weren't spinning? Unless you have a 203 (that is still full-time), the backs should have been spinning. I would also say that you had a broken axle shaft, R&P, spiders, etc...But you said it worked fine in 2wd also. That is a stumper.

My 205 tc did that occasionally - then I twin-sticked it and it does that when I want it to! Never did figure out what was causing unintentional front low

Oops forgot to add this is on my '94 chevy :doah:

So no 203 or 205 but rather the 241 transfer or w/e

ok i had this happen to me in my blazer last year while on the trail. i was going up some hill and started hoppin real hard so i let off so i kept backin up and hittin it when my buddy told me only the front was spinning for some reason i pushed on the transfer case shifter to push it into low and it moved farther so i had my passenger hold it with his foot while i gave her hell and all 4 tires spun front and rear. So i would try having someone hold the shifter and try it and if it works try to adjust it. If you have a 203 anyway

nobody have an idea on what this could be??

I've got to change the intake gasket tomorrow on it so i may just fix this too. If not i'm gonna have to hook her to a tree and see if i can find the problem :D

Well, in the part-time cases we're talking about (NP241 and the like) a chain is used to couple the front to the back.

If the chain popped, you'd know about it (it's like an inch and a half wide and would make a ton of noise, never mind breaking the case), so I'm inclined to suspect that the sliding mechanism to engage the thing isn't engaging. I'd start with adjusting the shifter.

Now, note that if you don't have some kind of traction aid (limited slip, locker, whatever) in the back, it's entirely possible that one wheel would remain stationary whilst the other spun, which you may not have been able to see. :dunno:

Got the G80 in the back. The gov-loc or w/e. The 1 spins a VERY lil and the other kicks in puttin both spinning. I can hear it clunk every once in while.

I see what you're sayin about the transfer. Maybe the chains slipping but i hear nothing. :dunno: Still doesn't make sense why the rear tires would stop and the front still work.

I'm just gonna hook it to the tree like i said and see if i can get something to work right. :D

Probably break something in the process. I'll take video :haha:
