I'm looking to do some more mockup work on the "Might As Well" build, and I'd rather not buy some high-dollar tubing for my "pretend" coilover bodies.. the correct size would be 3.25" OD (any wall thickness is acceptable)...and 3.5" wouldn't be bad either.

I was wondering what the diameter of a stock driveshaft was, and if I would be likely to find something in that size on some common vehicle. I only need 20" long pieces to build what I want so it seems like there has to be a cheap way to get some scrap metal with those dimensions.

Maybe there's some other part I could cut up....like old axle housings or something??

Ideas?

Like Brian said a muffler shop "might" have some 3" and they can swedge it out to 3.25" no problem but if you need something alot beefier than a piece of exhaust tubing then your best bet is either a driveshaft or axle tube. Can the OD be any size between 3.25" and 3.5" or does it have to be either one?

3.25" is the actual dimension I'm trying to replicate, but slightly larger won't hurt anything... I just need to set up my mounting points to check for interferences with the frame, links and bracketry.

I was thinking about going that route also.... the stuff really gums up my welder though...
