He has a '79 Lincoln with 400cid.

He replaced the CAM, LIfters, Valve springs, intake manifold and Carb. Also the timing gears and chain.

The car sat for years, so we drained the tank and put about 4 gal. in it to get the break in going.

We tried to get it started for the cam break-in (2000rpm @ 15-20min.)

We believe the timing was 180 out. So we sorted this out and got it to fire it, it wasnt pretty, but I was able to bring the RPMs up to about 2000rpm and it ran for 10min. on occasion it would sputter, but it could be cuz we were fouling the plugs somewhat. Well after 10min. the car ran out of gas, who'd a thunk it. lol.

Anyways, all we did was get more gas, pour it in and now as of this point, the car wont start. We didnt adjust or move anything, just put gas in a car that was just running. We even started moving the dizzy around thinking we got timing off some, couldnt get it to fire up at all. We get fuel to the carb and I even checkd the float bowl level, all was well. Pulled a couple plugs and did a spark test and it was fine. So, this doesnt make any sense at all, why it wont run now, we got AIR, FUEL and Spark. What else could I look for?

Check compression, take valve covers and spin the engine to ensure that the valves are opening and closing, and also double check your valve lash.

Easy enuff, but why would i be able to run the car for 10min. it run out of gas and now it wont start (yes, there is gas in it now. lol)

Most Fords have non adjustable valves.

I'd put some new plugs in and try again. Was the carb brand new when it went on? That seems like a lot of gas for that ammount of time.

Did you get the firing order correct? Just for reference the firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 in a counter clockwise rotation.

We didnt have the fire order correct at first. Once we got it sorted it and got #1 TDC and the rotor facing #1 plug wire on cap, it fired up. It wasnt as smooth as it could be but it ran for 10min.

After it ran out of gas and we couldnt get it fired up we did some investigating. Found the plugs gapped at .030, factory is .048-.052 so we fixed that and cleaned the plugs really good. Put them in, and nothing. It wouldnt fire.

The carb was not new, it was off my Blazer, its a street avenger 670cfm

You know number 1 is the passenger side front cylinder right? And its 1-2-3-4 on the passenger side and 5-6-7-8 on the drivers side.

Just askin cuz it aint numbered like a Chevy :D

Yea we got that all sorted out, the org. intake manifold had the fire order printed on the front and each cylinder was marked, so that made it easier.

Just remember that fuel fouled plugs will never fire correctly again and i don't care how many times you clean them.
