So i drive my k5 very little so little in fact i have almost gone a year between registrations paid i might add without smog and its incomplete. I am registering the truck in a non smog county blythe, of i wait till my next reg to change the address would the fact of the truck now being in a smog exempt county make my smog requirement go away?

I believe if you move to a county that requires a smog check, then you'll probably have to smog it again :(

Unless your rig is old enough. I don't know what the cutoff year is anymore.

To the best of my knowledge in a non-smog county you must get the smog checked when first registered there, then you never need to check it again. The good news is that since they do so few smog checks in those counties they are either lenient on the visual inspection or don't know what to look for.

Eh its able to pass smog now but once that last one is done its all over for all the crap thats on the truck.. I am going to try and smog it and register it over there withing 30 days of eachother. so I dont have to deal with this anymore..

You should not have to smog it, just do a change of address on the DMV form.
You will need to smog it if/when you ever sell it in California.

If that's the case, it costs a LOT of money to put the emissions back on. Once they are removed or even disconnected, they often need to be replaced. The AIR pump seems very susceptible to disconnect/failure.

No smog pump on my K5 I have a federal truck so its really limited to vaccum/egr/pcv/evap
minor stuff.

So here is what I found out. I called DMV this is really good information.
Actual Residence in a Non-Biennial Area

  • When a residence is physically located in a non-biennial area, but the mailing address (zip code) assigned to the residence by the post office is in a biennial area, a smog certification is not required for renewal.
  • The application must include a Statement of Facts (REG 256), completed by the owner, stating his/her residence is in a non-biennial area.

Vehicles Garaged Outside of a Biennial Inspection Area

When the registered owner’s mailing address is in a biennial inspection area but the vehicle is garaged outside of a biennial inspection area, a smog certification must be submitted for the renewal.

they will make you fill out a statement of facts stating you are living away from your primary residence and your mailing address is in fact not your primary residence.

Simple enough for me because its my father in laws house so I am going to do this. And it removes the pending inspection..

for freee!!
