I stoped at napa today to see about some weld thru primer. It took the guy like 20 minutes to find it on the comouter and then they were out of it!! The stuff he found was by 3m for $35 a can! Is that about right for a price? What brands do you guys like? Prices? where to get it?

Thanks

i usually pay between $10 and $20 a can, depending on brand... I source mine right from my local autobody supply place... Napa, god bless their soul, are not exactly "versed" in autobody stuff..

it's not like it's rare or something... I've been using it for over 20 yrs in various brands... the older stuff was better cause it had decent zinc in it... hard to find anymore..

recently my guy gave me this Copperweld stuff... it's made by SEM, and their other stuff is nice, so I tried it.. good product, it was around $20 a can..

ANY body supply store is gonna carry SEM products...

What Ryoken said.

If you still strike out you can get a can from Eastwood Auto Supply as well.

Gotta look around for SEM brand products. The worst thing is most places close at 4:30 in portland right when i get out of work. Might just hafta order it.

i'd go right to the yellow pages under "autobody supplies"

I went to sems web site and found the copperweld you mentioned, ryoken. They also list a weld-thru primer, which in the description says is has some zinc in it. Wonder if that would be any better? Now just gotta find where they sell it local!

I was kinda digging the copperweld, but I have no idea of it's longtime capabilities. like i do more standard zinc based stuff... it was all he had at the moment... i may go back to a zinc based if thats what he has in stock next time... i pretty much go with whatever he has cheapest in stock...

and you may have heard me rant on the zinc issue before with the self-etching primers, formerly zinc chromate pretty much... and how they're trying to eliminate the zinc stuff as much a spossible these days...

the best stuff is usually the stuff that kills ya quicker! :doah::wink1:

I found a place online thats like 6 miles from work going to check with them tommorow. Its an autobody supply place. Ryoken do you have any particular brand of seam sealer you use or like? Gonna hopefully pick up some of that tommorow as well.

i've been using Fusor products for a long time.. lately i've been using the 800ez series.. it's simple to use, and you can flow it out nice with an acid brush and soapy water if ya want...

Looks good thanks for your help Ryoken. Now hopefully I dont have to take time off work just to go get this stuff.:D

Well I found a place that sells SEM products. They delivered two cans to my work today. Hope to find out how it works this weekend

Yup went with the copperweld. That was the one they had in stock and recomended. Hope to try it out this weekend.

Bringing this thread back from the dead.

So, I'm smoothing out my firewall and it's going to be a bitch to get to some of the spots from the back very thoroughly, so I was looking for some weld through primer. I ended up going to NAPA today to see if they had some weld through primer...basically, see scotsdale83's first post.

After finding nothing, I get back home to check out handy, dandy CK5. Before starting a post, I do a search and low and behold, here we are. :eek1:

I ended up ordering two cans shipped to my door for $21 a can. We'll see how it works out.

Its been working well for me so far. I was amazed by the can its self. Sprays wicked good much better than any spray paint I had ever used.
