Welding 14B tubes

I jacked up the center of the diff to make sure tubes were level, cleaned it well, and burned it in. Not sure if it is the correct way, but it works.

old school welder friend of mine helped me do mine .

we pre / post heated the housing and tubes with 175k btu salamander heater and post we wrapped it in a blanket .

he burned them in with a BIG stick welder and some good rod . sorry to long ago for me to recall the # rod used .

i sure do miss him what a super fabricator / wrench man . . . . R.I.P. bob f. .................:waytogo:

We only ever preheated and post heated with a torch. Took care to cook out any crap we couldnt clean off the surface. Prepped it with a flap disc and hit four heavy tac welds.
Burned it in with a Miller 252 mig.
Heated again with the torch and then wrapped up in a couple welding blankets. Done several shaves and tube welds this way.

Anything special to be concerned with?

Lincoln 175

Are you asking about welding the tubes to the center section, or welding brackets to the tube? From the replies it sounds like you are asking about welding the tubes to the center section, which means you are welding steel to cast iron.
