I'm in the process of building a set of brake brackets for my GM style 60 to run 3/4 ton calipers. Most of the aftermarket setups I've seen use a flat plate and some sort of bolt-on or weld-on pad that sets the spacing to put the caliper in center with the rotor. With that being said could you just use the stock "swedge" type brackets, mill off the unwanted material and weld or bolt on pads? This could save a ton of time and material. I didn't know if these hangers where iron or steel , cast or forged?

It's just a thought before I start maching them out a billet.
