I was needing some input on what kind of welding is must handy for what we do. I am signimg up for a welding class at a local tech school and I have to choose stick, mig, etc. It is a week long class and when I am done I am going to get my own welder so any imput would be great. For info the kind of stuff I want to do are box my frame and do some simple fab like crossmembers and stuff. Thanks. And by the way I have never even touched a welder before.

mig x2...not sure how much u can learn in a week but mig is probably easier and cheaper to learn for a novice who wants a home set up...

Mig for sure...stick if you live on a farm and need to do repairs to rusty and or thicker stuff often. For automotive stuff MIG is the clear choice to learn and the machine to buy.

I vote MIG as well. TIG would be better, but the cost of a TIG welder takes it out of consideration.

I've got a nice MIG set-up, but my welding is just plain lousy. I would really like to be good at it.
