Welding question

What rod do you use when welding mild steel to cast steel? I'm gonna shave the 14 bolt and thought I remembered reading nickle rod has to be used along with pre and post heating, but I cant seem to find that source again.

Mild to cast steel...use regular welding wire. If you're using stick, use some 7018 and call it good.

Cast Iron is the finicky one to weld, and does require NiRod.

Center diffs are cast iron, outer knuckles are cast iron, inner "C"s are cast steel. When I weld on cast Iron I preheat, weld with 99% nickle filler, and wrap it with a heat blanket and put an electric heater on it for a couple hours.
