My uncle gave me a gas welding outfit. It's an old craftsman set that came with welding and cutting torches. Is it recommended to install flame arresters on it? I've seen those devices, but not sure if they're even needed.
My other question concerns welding aluminum. I have a Hobart 110 mig welder that welds steel awesome. For laughs, I put in an aluminum spool and argon gas cylinder (the correct mixture for aluminum) and tried welding alum, but it came out very bad. I don't have the Hobart manual, so I'm not sure what settings it needs. What are the best settings for aluminum? Can a mig do a very good job? What is the ultimate method of welding aluminum...mig, tig, or gas? What say you welding pros?

Your gas setup already has flashback setups in the handles and and you need to clean the aluminum first it is a little different to weld you have to turn the heat down and move quicker. =)

More heat for aluminum...not less. It draws the heat away so quickly you need more to overcome that.

Spark arrestors on a torch...absolutely.
