I'm about to weld in some patch panels.

How do you protect the inside of the K5. I have removed all of the seats, carpet, headliner, doors still have the plastic trim.

I'm just not sure how much damage the sparks from the mig may cause. This is my first time with welding sheet metal.

You can use a welding blanket ,I have cheated and used a sopping wet blanket to cover the seats and carpet while welding in rust patches on floors,etc...with a MIG you'll have to be leery of the potential for shocks if you touched the wet blasnket!..

Taking the seats and carpet out completely is the best way,its a lot more work but you wont be worrying about detting the truck on fire, which isn't all that hard to do!..you'll probably find 10 more rot holes to patch once the carpet & seats are out too--might as well get tham all at once!..I kept a garden hose handy when I welded on my trucks..more than once undercoating was blazing away underneath after I laid a long bead of weld--once I lit the fuel line on fire!!..a rubber hose off the sending unit was right against the floor where I was welding a patch on...was lucky it didn't turn into an inferno!...
