Welding\\Winch?

Will it hurt the electric motor in the winch if I tack welded the mounting bolts for the winch to the bumper? This is so it doesn't get stolen. Thanks for any help.

Nope, just ground at the bumper, not on the motor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

if you are talking about it hurting the electical system in the winch. it will not just make sure the power cable is unhooked and ground it to the bumper like was said above.

I wouldn't weld the bolts on. If you can find a source for grade 8 carriage bolts I'd bolt it on with them and then weld a piece of channel over the nut end. Otherwise, I'd weld channel over both ends of a regular bolt.

As long as you have the positive end of the motor isolated it won't care if you weld on it.

I also believe winch manufactures will void warranty work if the mounting bolts are welded.

if you weld the bolts it will void the warn warranty (if its a warn) take some angle iron and weld it over the bolts so it kinda looks like a tent over the bolts then if you need to get them off just grind them off /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

...and IIRC if it is a Ramsey that is more than a couple years old it is in fact case grounded, and their is the potential for electrical damage. Either way make some sort of hat for the bolts, don't weld directly to them.
