welding wire question

I know this is odd but why does my Miller welder say .023 all over it but then the Hobart welding wire is actually .024 ??? It just seems odd they don't call it out as the exact same.

It doesn.t matter AT ALL, thats kind of skinny wire, use .030 for everything at work, a few thousandths give or take will not make any difference, the tip in your gun has a few thou play anyway. Some manufactures may sell a little different size wire but it all will work the same as long as its from the same general size, .024, .030, .045 And you use the right corresponding tip

I've never heard of 24..... every machine/liner i've ever seen listed is 23... wont make a dif tho, probably just some typo thing...

I've seen both, and I think it's just semantics related to fractional math. .023, or .024 is 3/128" thick. 0.0234375" in decimal form. Likely is some manufacturers are rounding up incorrectly.

Either is great for light body work, and fine small gauge work.

there are different alloys you can get for wire. airgas has some in .023, .024, and .025 diam.

I've got rollers for .023 .030 and .035 and I've never seen .024s. I guess I need to get out more. I'm sure for lite duty sheet metal either would work. Hell, I've done repairs in sheet metal with .030 on my 87 and they were fine.
