Well, Been Nice Knowing you guys!...Sad Pics...

If totaled, tell them you want to keep the truck. Oh..do you have full coverage? If you do, they will let you keep the truck and give you local market value. Which sucks actually. Market values for our trucks is rotten.

It is all up to the other Insurance company. and local prices (craigslist, etc) vary from $1300, to $3500 going to print some up for value comparison when they come back with a lowball.....:waytogo:

Good idea. You can also go to eBaymotors and search for trucks within 2-4 years of your truck, then there is a link near the top of the listings that says "Completed listings". Print that out to show what they are selling for.

And, of course, you are TAKING NOTES of all the dealings with your insurance company, right? Or are you just going to let them screw you over?

Had the same thing happen to my 91' suburban back in Seattle! I was leaving work on Friday and went onto the highway on-ramp. Two lanes coming into one. I was going about 5 mph (you know, Seattle stop and go), and I see in my side view mirror some piece of crap car going 10 mph......

And he just continues to merge into the single lane that my truck was currently occupying :dunno:. He continues to slowly drive down both doors and my front fender before coming to a stop. Why do people continue to move forward after hitting a car?!?

Of course, no insurance at the time but his old insurance company actually stepped forward and took care of it even though he let his insurance expire. Nice company! :D

Truck is all fixed and I sold it years later. It looked just like yours is now!

You sure that's 35mph? That doesn't look like that much was the speed. 35 is more than you think, and even though he slid under, I expected far more damage to the corolla than I saw here.

As for your damage, FIGHT IT! Try a different body shop. Did I miss what your insurance company is? I'd try another location and see what they say. Also, I've seen people "total" a car simply to bury the idiot that is at fault. Is that the case here?

Yeah, I would not let them total it. I'd fight them every step of the way and let them know they are going to pay to have it repaired one way or the other. If his insurance won't do it, tell your insurance company you want them to sue on your behalf. I don't know if they can do that, but I am pretty sure that's what you pay them for!

get some doors, and a fender and shes good as new! Fix whatevers messed up in the front end and continue on your way DUDE!!! :thumb:

As suspected "total loss" Over $2900 in damage. They did not even check the drive line, which as I stated drives the same in 4x4 and 2wd, no noises etc.But they had to make note that it "may have been damaged"..just the passenger wheel is Out of alignment so hopes are good. ‎.....all is not lost tho. i'll probably find out tomorrow what they plan to offer,....excuse me, what they will low ball me, and i will then counter with fiair market value, i won't take less than 3k for it i have plenty of other people selling Subs in worse condition for more than 3k...... Sans what they can deduct from me keeping the vehicle & I don't see them getting much for it at auction. So, i will just keep it and use the remainder to fix it up at a fraction of the cost, and have some left over to add some extras!.....Stay tuned.

Alright! Good News! They are offering me $3200 for the truck if they keep it and $2700 if i keep it! NO BRAINER! KEEPING IT! and gonna fix it myself! I only paid $800 for the truck and had $675 in minor repairs done to it so all in all i have MADE MONEY haha!......stay tuned for the Rehab Process!

Not sure how they do it in Cali, but here when the insurance company totals out a vehicle, and you keep it for less than they offered for them to take it, you are then required to get the title changed to a salvage title, then you make repairs, take it to DMV for a certain inspection, and if everything passed, you only get a salvage restored title. Apparently some insurance agencies have issues with insuring one of these types of titled vehicles.

$2700 :eek1:

Ok im off to find some boneheads in corollas to hit the blazer.....

Hahaha @Deuling I was rather surprised too. I was expecting to have to fight them for at minimum 3k(sans the buyback) but they went above my research and i was Pleased to say the least.I can probably say i can get MOST of the repair done with about $800 of that(if the axle is okay) I may just keep the doors and do the dreaded bondo on the doors, i had planned to coat the rockers and lower door panels with Bed liner ANYWAY, so some bondo with a few layers of bedliner and knock out the bigger dent and re adjust the rear door and i should be okay! I'm not looking for perfect. It is an old truck.

This is 35 mph on 35 mph damage to a chevy truck from a corrolla. Granted it is a 2005, but I think I would've died in anything older. Sorry for the crap cell phone pics, this was from a time before cell phones had hd. My passenger floor was pushed up 6-8 inches and that front knuckle is snapped off. The wheel was hanging on by the axle shaft. The frame was so bent I couldnt open the tailgate.

oh, and the corrolla was a 2008 and the bumper went into the firewall, engine dropped down, and all the windows shattered out.

both cars went to the crusher :doah:

Your truck looks very fixable. Seems like time to start picking on something your own size, like trees.

@Richcz28 hahaha! hey, he started it! All i wanted to do is go get some gas 2 blocks up! !LOL All i know is I WAS doing about 35,it is a school zone, my old High School to be exact and I know the cops love to ticket this road, so I don't take chances not sure what he was doing....besides running the red light,I can only assume 25-35 any slower and he *should* have been able to stop. He hit me and this was the result. Was I lucky? Heck yes! Had I been in my 99 Avenger(which was almost the case) I'm sure me and my 8 month old would be in much, much worse shape! I'm sure if I was not hurt I would have gotten out and beaten some ass....350 lb Angry Papa Bear. at any rate the front wheel took most of the impact essentially his bumper was put in front of my wheel enough for me to crush his driver fender and essentially rip the bumper cover and shatter the fiberglass bumper to ****, the center and passenger front of the car is what took out my door panels and clipped the fender wells, essentially my inertia knocked him about 30* sideways rolling him along my side, My wheel took most of the impact....that is how i saw it anyway, which is why I have concern that the front Axel may have shifted to the drivers side slightly, all tho I really have no evidence other than the alignment on the Passenger side which is clearly off.....So.....yeah LOL it drove fine! it drove trouble free, no vibration no grinding nothing like that. So i don't know! ill get it aligned and see what happens.

Take some pics of the axle, spring, u-bolts and spring plates, etc. Most of the people here are pretty good at knowing what these things are supposed to look like and can point out a problem pretty quick. From your description I'm betting the front spring pin is sheared off, if not on both sides, and maybe the front spring is tweaked too. Check the rear as well cause that could have done the same type of damage.

I think it's time to take some of that dollar amount and buy a small lift and swap to 3/4 tons and 33s.

Beware of this for sure. Talk to your insurance company about covering it. It would be too bad to fix it up only to find you cannot insure it. However, if you show them the photos and that the repairs were done properly you may be fine. I mean ... really, it's not THAT much damage!

***UPDATE*** they upped the payout to $2950. Very fair if you ask me. going to pick him up today, and once the check gets here have the front end checked out, then get started repairing the body panels with he bondo and Bedliner.....i may wait and scour the Junk yards for replacement doors first to save trouble.

I'd just leave the doors, unless there is something major I am missing? Removing and re-installing doors has always been a giant pain in my experience. What's a few battle wounds? In warrior tribes it's an honor! :D
