Well good news regarding atlas t-cases

If some of you remember from my post a while ago we were not sure if the atlas could stand up to the hp/tq of a built big block in the neighborhood of 500hp/650tq. Well I called Advance Adapters and spoke with someone there who told me that it could easily take that and more. He said that they have maxed out test dyno's before breaking the t-case. I don't know if that means anything without the shock loads that offroading places on them but he said it was backed by a garauntee. If you break it in the first 6mo they will replace it free of charge. After the first 6mo they will replace any part that breaks due to manufacturer defect.

Just thought it was good to know that they are confident it will hold up and figured I'd share it with all you.

the point was made on Pirate, 3 speeds in the size of an Atlas? Gears can't be very large.

As for the Atlas, eh, ask Jesse at High Angle what he thinks. He has mentioned seeing people blow an Atlas, never in 4lo but in 2hi.

There is a guy on Pirate4x4 named Dan Dibble who is running an Atlas in his very large and heavy 4-seat tube buggy. This thing has cut 44" Boggers, 2.5 Rockwells, and a very healthy 454. I've seen pictures and videos and he really beats on that thing. From what I've read he's broken stock 2.5 ton axle shafts, but never the Atlas...............the best testimony I've ever heard for an Atlas!

rockwells shafts are weak anyways

That still doesn't mean the Atlas isn't strong. I run one and I DBLAZER runs one with a Klune in front of it. They will hold up to a lot of abuse

From all of the pictures and videos I've seen that buggy has more hardcore wheelin' under it's belt the last year or two than most people will see in a lifetime. Besides, a tank of fuel can last a long time on a trailride.

Regarding the comment about Rockwell shafts being "weak".......what are you comparing it to????

What????? The buggy has been together for over a year now, and shows over 650miles on the corrected speedo. And trust me it dosent get 50mpg.

Not to hijack, but I think their weight comparison sums up how strong that stak case will be. 140 pounds for their case and 138 for a 205. Now while I've never heard of anyone breaking gears in a 205, adding in an extra set and only gaining 2 pounds in the overall weight probably means they're not very large. I haven't considered other possibilities such as case design and material but I'm really not sure this new t-case will be as strong as some people hope.

The number of broken 'front' rockwell shafts I have seen and read about. This also depends on the year of the axle. From what I understand, the older axles (Timken) have the weakest shafts. The shaft size is not much bigger than a D60 shaft and there are fewer splines unless you go aftermarket and spend the big bucks on the super strong 40 spline (or more) shafts.
