Well Got the key to a CUCV today so I am now one step closer and can check them when I go look at them on Gov Liq depots on bases.

Now to find one in shape and price I want.

You know, the going joke is that a basic Chevy build is that you remove the radiator cap, replace everything else, then put the cap back on.

On the other hand, starting a build at the key and working your way from there could take a while too :haha:

would that happen to be a master key?????? could a guytalk you out of a copy????? looking at a few in my neighborhood . thanks

One master key makes sense, and that is probably the reason why they have the chain from the seat bracket to the steering wheel, as to still have some limitation on who can operate them as you would now need the key to the lock IN the truck to drive it.

When I went to buy mine the guy had 12 m1008/28s but he handed me a ring of keys each with a different VIN on them. Why were those specific?

Wonder if they were all the same key, just marked differently to make you think they were keyed differently.

Ign cylinder would be super easy to change on those trucks, if you happen to buy one. They are like $10 or $15. Door lock cylinders from rock auto dont' seem too pricey either.

A lot of times the locks got changed out when the CUCVs were sold for civilian use because of the "common key" situation.

If yall cant get keys, i can talk to my motor SGT tommorow. Im sure i can get more than enough.

My only reason for wanting one is I used to have one years ago and found that it not only fit CUCVs but about 75% of factory cylinder locks as well. Didn't always work on aftermarket replacement cylinders but some of them as well. Also seemed to work on lots of door locks as well. I could be wrong but it seemed as though the common locks used for CUCVs were the basic pattern that all the other GM configurations were based off of.

makes me a little nervous at the same time.

X2 on what money said. I would have to say the keys are out there you just have to look. I would hate to be responsible for any one doing wrong or worse yet getting in trouble for a master key. In Ohio possession of a master key is a crime.

Main reason I got it was so when I go check out one on a liquidation site I can see if it starts and if I win to get it on a dolly. One of the First things to get changed out will be locks.

Talked to the MOPO SGT today. We have 30-40 days left in Iraq. If he ordered them here, they wouldnt get here in time. We do have some blanks/un cut keys, and a key machine. I will try to make some up, and bring em home.
