My FI454 is wraping my rear axel perrty hard (D60rear) and it has alot of offroad miles on it and a good load of hwy miles,10 years worth. I was going to sink more $$ into the rear by adding traction bars and fixing the pinion angel that is off by 2deg. My fron D44 is perrty damn tuff with the CTMs and CMoly shafts but over the years it is getting tired and with the new fire under the hood (MPFI454) I would guess it's just a matter of time before it EXPLODES.
I ran into a SMOKIN deal on a D60front and a 14FF w/disk brakes I just couldn't pass up.
So it would apear I am heading for the 1 Ton Club :D :D :D

I had to share my excitement and now the research begains....If I would have just payed attention to 1ton axels all these years I would allready know what I want stuffed in them hahahahaha oh well let the fun begain!!!!!!!!!
YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA1Ton!

It will be a while before I tear down my K5 but when the build starts I'll get some pics fer ya'all....

Say goodby to my 6luggers...no plans on making it any higher or bigger just swapin in 60/14 with crossover/highsteer/hydro asst and a good trackbar on the 14FF to keep it inplace
Have a great weekend
Burt

sweet. Its been one of the best moves I did but I was blowin 44s and 10 bolts appart almost weekly. Still breaking 60 stuff but too cheap to upgrade yet when spare parts are cheap and avaliable.

congrats burt... would they happen to be off of estebans rig?
well see ya in hollister in a few months!!!

You will get 1" of lift from the Dana 60 I learned from my research. I assume the Dana 60 and the 14 bolt came from the same rig. Assuming that is right, your rear perches will be in the correct location which is a plus. Your front driveshaft should bolt up but watch to see if the length is affected. You will need the conversion u-joint to attach your driveshaft to the rear axle.

Course you will have to address your front brake lines - they won't bolt up to the Dana 60. On my 1978 /4 ton Dana 44 I am putting in my 70 K5 I found the new front rubber brake lines wouldn't bolt up to my existing hard lines. The fittings were different. I'm just running all new hard lines.

For your rear axle the location of the hardline and the rubber line is a bit different but the correct ends.

Well, there are some things off the top of my head that I can recall.

So, what rims will you be going with? 16"?

Oh how rude of me! Congrats!

I'm going to be throwing a Dana 60 under my 69 K20 after I get my K5 done so I will of course keep my eye on your project.

Cool cool, definitely going to keep an eye on this build.:wink1:

How about few pics of your sliders.

Congrats and welcome to the club. :thumb:

How much ground clearence under the diff's will you be loosing on this swap?

Congrats Burt!!! :saweet:

This Spring I'm going to have to address axle-wrap issues also.....so if the timing works out, maybe I'll have already solved the problem for us 1st Gen guys and will have a product for you to try!?!?

:usaflag:

Hey Burt, what are the odds of the brake lines and e-brake cables on your old running gear surviving the swap?

(hint hint)

See you in April,

Nate

My magic 8 ball says "Odds Are Good!" :haha: :D

My 14FF has diskbrakes w/out ebrake calipers so looks like my line-lock will be my new E-brake;)
