when the part failure occurs

At least you know that it will happen... /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif j/k

I just picked up on you saying, "when" not "if"..

I found it funny. Anywho, nice truck, but its still a dodge.

maybe i missed it. When are you putting straight pipes on that beast? /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

It is a 2001.5 with rear disks, so what is the CAD mechanism? I don't know the details on the dodge 4wd setup.

central(center?) axle disconnect located on the front axle. It is vacuum accuated when you put her in 4wd. There is a cheap mod you can do that will allow you to run in 2wd low only. You can get details on www.turbodieselregister.com

I'm not. I'm leaving it basically stock, for now.

I knew thats how it worked but I am curious what there was different on it between the 01's and 02's. A friend with a 97 and the V10 had problems with his not wanting to engage. I havent put mine in 4wd yet. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but I found buttons on the steering wheel that control the stereo volume and channel. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The CAD system is the same on some of the 02's - Dodge changed to a one piece axle design on trucks made mid December of 01 and later. My truck has a build date of 12/05/01 and it has the CAD system on it . I wish I would have waited another month before I ordered it and gotten the one piece axle design instead , but I had no idea that they were changing it .

I am not a fan of the CAD system but I must admit it has spoiled me ( or I might be getting extrememly lazy ) when I have needed four wheel drive in my pull truck .
One big advantage is that the front drive shaft does not turn while the truck is going down the road - those with the one piece axle sometimes complain about the front drive shaft causing a mild vibration at speeds around 70 MPH and greater.
Looking at the CAD system on the Dodge Dana 60 it is the same junk that is used on the 1/2 ton Dana 44's ( I am talking about the coupler and slider ) .
Other than that the only other problems that I can think of are the connections that go down to the axle are suspect to get pulled aprt while off road .

The system works real well but I do not think that it is as durrable as it should be - atleast not in a truck of that capacity and power.
Tom

I just re-read your question and realized that you wanted to know the advantages of the one piece design - basically there are fewer parts to go wrong - I can not say that it is any stronger because both versions use the small spline & dianmeter axles.

Nice, I have a MagnaFlow Exhaust, K&N Filter and MagnaFlow Programmer package that would add around 100 HP and 209 Lb-Ft Torque. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Let me know if your interested.

Mine has a coupler on the front D60 so I guess it's the 2 piece system.

nice truck Bobby.
if that CAD ever fails, just pick up a Posilock, it replaces the vacuum motor with a cable actuated version.

[/ QUOTE ] I have heard about that. If it fails in the next two years i will just have the dealership fix it for free under my extended warranty. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
