Well I\'m back to working on the frame - Shackle angles and 52\'s

Well I'm back to work on the frame. I finally got the rivits out of the upper shackle brackets and got them bolted to the frame with a little thread loc because I'm paranoid (after I cut the holes a little bigger for the pass though piece). There's a pic of the bracket front and back, pic with the stock shackle and a pic of 2 shackles clamped together with a 7" center to center. I think it looks way to long but there also is no weight on the springs yet which also concerns me seeing as how the shackle is already pointed back.

I wouldn't go any shorter than that, its gonna compress a good deal I think. not only when the weight is on there but during travel. Hopefully KidJethro will reply, he has 52s and relocated his shackles like that. I know he was commenting on his shackle length.

wow, your frame is beautiful /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
What did you coat it with? /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

I don't know why you relocated the shackle mounts at all.

Seems that the angle would be perfect at ride height in the stock location.

Re: Well I\'m back to working on the frame - Shackle angles and 52\'s

really? looking at it in the stock position the shackle points forward, which I always heard was a bad angle.
I'll probley still make my shackles 7" for now till I get the body and engine in then tweek it if needed. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: Well I\'m back to working on the frame - Shackle angles and 52\'s

It looks like a bad angle until you realize how far those 52s are going to compress with a body and weight on them.

Move it back and I bet it'll be fine.

Tim why not move it? its only going to flex better with a better angle. 52s with stock position is a good angle, but relocated with 52s is a better angle.

Walmarts Rust Control paint, $1.97 a can

they have it in flat, satin and gloss
I painted the frame, springs, brackets and ubolts with the satin. JeremyK5 has painted his s-10 with the satin also. Its a good clean looking paint and its rust control. I've painted all the floors and stuff in my project blazer with it also.

(bumpers and tailgate have gotten a coat of gloss over the satin, makes for a good base also)

yeah I have all those pics saved. I'm wondering if by making my own brackets and moving the front mount down 1" if I didn't change some angles in the process /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I wonder what y'all are gonna run for driveshafts with all that flex.

And I'm sure you're going to run limiting straps. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: Well I\'m back to working on the frame - Shackle angles and 52\'s

I've got a 7" Shackle on my 56"s and its WAY short (in the stock location b/c of the extra 4" of length), sitting back at a 45odd degree angle...I think I'm going to have to go into the neighborhood of 9+" sounds stupid long but b/c of the angle it sweeps back it doesn't even mess with the caster.

/forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif hhhmmmmmm, this is making want to get the body swapped over even quicker now /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

so what length shackles does everyone have? 7" 7.25" ?

Re: Well I\'m back to working on the frame - Shackle angles and 52\'s

Sorry for the hi-jack, but Poohbair, Did you get that much foreward movement with just the spring change, or do you have a zero rate there too? I'm trying to get my 42s off the firewall.

Re: Well I\'m back to working on the frame - Shackle angles and 52\'s

52s or 56s in the front, move the axle forward 2". Add a zero rate and you can move forward more.

Re: Well I\'m back to working on the frame - Shackle angles and 52\'s

Those are 52's to move it forward 1.5 or 2", whatever you get... plus a zero rate as well. I was trying to get my tires off the firewall too!!! I am hoping to stuff either 39.5's or 42's under there soon.
