I recently bought my '79 Jimmy High Sierra, I've been a ford guy for the my whole life (owned a K5 in high school), and at first, felt forced to own a GM in this case, I own a '76 Ford F150, and with a wife and 2 kids, it's ridiculous, but after owning this for almost a month now, there's a reason my ford is parked in the back yard and waiting for someone on eBay to buy it, yea, I've grown to love this truck, and I've already added a few things to it, GT steering wheel (I'm a short fat guy, the massive wheel wasn't comfortable for me) and a CD player, but I'd like to add a lift, I am thinking a 4", but I've never BOUGHT a lift kit, always had a truck that had one previously installed, I don't have a lot of $$$ but want a good quality kit.

Please, any and all advice is wanted here, i know this may be the wrong forum to post this, but until I have $25 in my PayPal I'm SOL.

Thanks in advance.

For cheap, and decent performance, Go with the stock rear 52" springs in the front, and a shackle flip in the rear. Add zero rates to either end to level it out.

Its been awhile since i did it, and there was no kit available, but now i think DIY4x makes a kit for putting the 52s in the front.

All you have to do is move the front spring hangers forward some, and use some longer shackles on the rear of the front springs. I made some spring hangers that sat a little farther forward.

Or you could get a 4 inch tuff country, All spring, no blocks in the rear.

Oh and this forum works, good luck and welcome :P

thanks man I'll look into that, I "Defected" from Ford, so I'm not used to how these GM vehicles are setup, got under my truck and all I could muster was an "Oh Damn, this is different", I'm gonna start studying my truck more as the weather gets better.

Thanks again.

I'll keep that in mind, I've got to sell the pile of trucks in my backyard, that way I can afford a few things for it lol.

I'd go with a Tuff Country 4" EZ ride set of front springs and a shackle flip kit from DIY, ORD or whoever. 52's up front can be a bit soft for a daily driver IMO.

you would spend alot less money on the tuff country like Rene suggested. look for some used front springs and do a shackle flip

Agree with Rene 100%, and if you don't have alot of fabrication tools and the know how doing the 52" swap may be more then you can handle. Your new so we don't know your capibilities yet. Ya know how to weld and fabricate? Experience? If you don't have much experience and you want to learn how to fab there is a wealth of good experience here to learn from.
