I went and took some measurements for placing my batteries inside the cab of the K5 and I noticed that my floor does not look like Rene's cab floor. This made me change my plans.

Rather than place a battery in each corner of the foot well of the rear seat I am going to place them centerline of the rear seat much like a center console for the rear seat passengers. I hate to say it but my wife gave me the idea:doah:. I took some measurements and realized there was not enough room with my Tuffy box where it was so I had to move it forward. Well that led to me completely gutting the front floor:D.

I discovered during all of this I am getting water inside the truck from somewhere as the carpet on the passenger side was soaked from the rain we have been having. Once I unbolted everything I ended up removing all of the carpet and pad. I noticed the floorboards have a tar/plastic membrane over them. Is this normal? I have never seen it before.

Well with the center box moved as far forward as it will go (i.e. touching the factory 208 shifter housing) I now have a 19.5" X12" foot print to place a battery box for both batteries, my marine switch and an acr all with a lid and cup holders for the rear passengers:D.

No pics as it was dark when the daughter and I were done but we have the rear carpet to remove next then it will be all metal. I was happy to see that I did not have any rusted areas so the leak must be fairly recent.

Kinda long and rambling but it has been awhile since I have done anything with my truck.

One final thing. There are several wires running along the drivers side floor. One is for the seat belt. One set is orange and white and the other set is brown and yellow. Does anyone know what they are for? There is also a gray and blue set that run down passenger side.

I think the yellow, brown, grey and blue are speaker wires for the rear speakers and the orange and white is for the dome lights but I am not sure as I am lazy and have not looked at my wiring diagrams

I have rambled enough

I highly advise against putting batteries in the passenger compartment. For one they give off a gas as they are being charged which if you keep breathing it can kill you. Also if you were to ever flop or roll that acid won't feel to good running down the back side of your neck or where ever it ends up.

I am running AGM batteries and the box will be sealed to the Passenger compartment. Thanks for lookin out though:D

Also with no battery and power windows I had to use the drill trick to get the rear glass down to open the tailgate. It worked like a charm:D

i havent used anyhting other than an optima battery or an odessy battery in 10 years, completely sealed no vapors no acid :D

How old is she? My 7yr daughter helps me out a Lot on my truck. She thinks its 1/2 her`s,I guess its really is :)

The orange and white wires are the dome lights. The other four are speaker wires. And my 11 year old daughter just named my rig Blazey!

She is 9. She does not know it yet but she is getting her own welding helmet for Christmas so she can help me when I weld now.

We were going over all of the things we need to do to it and she is pretty excited. Her knuckles are pretty scraped up and she is gonna have a good bruise on her thumb where she pulled the drill trigger too fast and it caught and slambed her hand pretty good. She toughed it out and kept working though:D

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding....

Winner we have a winner!

as long as you dont need the dome light or speaker wires
brown and yellow are left side, blue is right side speakers
if you take them out, be sure to cap them as the orange one will blow a fuse if it shorts, and if the speaker wires short it can blow you radio's internal amp.

Yep I intend to terminate them properly as far back as I can get them. As for the radio I need to figure out where I want to run speakers. I think I am gonna only have fronts and maybe a center channel. I dunno yet

That is so cool! I`m happy for ya`ll. :)

Well bad news today. The truck is off-limits for my daughter for a while. I got called to her school to pic her up because she got caught with her friend painting the ****ing walls:angry1:. She is suspended for 1 day (unofficially just to hit it home, i.e. the prinicpal is not going to put it in her student record) and she has to do chores to pay off her portion of the supplies that she used and for the cost of the repaint of the walls. The wife and I still need to discuss the overall punishment.

I was hot when I got the call and she was lucky I had a 20 min drive to her school to pic her up. I had just picked up her welding helmet when I got the call. If I wasn't so lazy I would have returned it:o.

I was a bad parent and told her I should go wheelin without her. It tore her up more than I thought it would but I think she is begining to understand.

Ya gotta love cause their your kids but god sometime you just wanna kill em ya know:doah:.

Damn dude, that sucks. What you need to do is find a LARGE painting project at home and hand her the brush. "It's all yours babe, don't stop until you're done". Maybe then she won't like painting anymore. :D

I think the plan is for her and her "friend" to paint it on a Saturday over Christmas break and they have to buy the supplies with their own money. The wife and I are going to pay for her part and she is going to work for us for "a fair wage":D to pay us back.

I still get pissed when I think about it but the evil in me smiles every time I think of a new punishment.:D I need to becareful to not push her off the edge, atleast not right away:D

What kind of painting was she doing? Maybe she needs an outlet for her "creative energy". I'm sure she knows it was wrong and it sounds like you have a good punishment worked out to help her "remember" that.

On another note:

I noticed the floorboards have a tar/plastic membrane over them. Is this normal? I have never seen it before.

Anybody have any tips for getting that stuff off? There is a big sheet of it in my driver's side footwell that I want to get off for an eventual brush-on bed liner.

Try a heat gun and scraper.

You can run all of the dome light wires behind the kick panel and above the door and then to the lights.

I am removing all of the trim and will eventually be cutting the top so dome lights are out:o

I might run a Biglots "taplight" until I do cut the top. Kinda like the lights in a travel trailer but battery powered.
