whenever the windshield wipers are on, the wiper fluid spits out on its own, messing with the switch does nothing. Where should i start? It used to be an intermitten problem but now it wont go away..

It's probably the switch itself.

Mine stays on after you turn the switch on the stalk. However if I manually spin the switch back to the off position it goes off. Makes me think it's the switch itself in your case. Might just be the stalk is going bad. I think you can replace them as a unit.

I would concur, except I have a similar problem with my '83. My switch is completely different and is besdie the headlight switch.

Not all the time, but if I do use the washers it'll do that for quite a while before finally stopping. I'd be more inclined to look at the electrical end of the pump area on the washer motor, I'm thinking it's most likely corroded connectors somewhere.

This problem and the random ghost wipers are both pretty common.

My 1009 does the same thing. I solved the problem by drilling a hole in the bottom of the washer reservoir.

Voila, no more squirting.

haha wow..

ghost wipers?

and how hard is it to replace the stalk? it looks kinda ratty anyway.. actually, the whole truck looks kinda ratty haha

Stalk isn't terrible, but it's not easy. I believe I posted up the test procedure for the stalk in a previous post about wiper malfunctions. Should be pretty simple test since the problem is constant.

Easier with the stalk out, but should be "testable" at the base of the column too.

If you need to replace the stalk, I highly recommend getting a later model that has the disconnect up at the stalk, so you don't have to snake the wires ever again.

my m1009 does the same, turn the stalk to wash, nothing happens for a while, then the darned thing squirts for days. i have to turn it back towards me to try and shut it off. i just avoid using it anymore. the wash wands at the gas station have me covered.

my cucv has had the switch replaced with a spst switch, and new wiring, and it does the same thing. wipers on, turn the washer on, turn the washer off, washer keeps going for a while. flicking the switch repeatedly usually gets it to stop. Has to be something wrong at the wipermotor assembly
