on the way home from work today. BTO is looking good, just need to chit some $$$'s....
It did get me home so I won't badmouth it.

How many miles did you get out of it?

Really don't know. I had to swap gauge clusters, can't count the original accurately. Well in excess of 100k I'm sure. Not bad for an '86 weighing 6200#.

The 700r4 was upgraded in '87. Big improvement.

I'm waiting for it to cool. I want to find out what is going on. I need to eliminate the t-case as the problem.

I did check the tranny fluid, dipstick came up dry.

well yeah, but it was raining fluid underneath. it was slinging off the driveshaft so hard I thought someone got me with the zip tie prank.

yep. I do have a line on a decent 4l80, going see if that works out...

if I had the $$ that's exactly what I'd do.

4l80 has its own swap in problems . .

and need 32 spline input t-case over your current 27 spline unit.

also 700r4/4l60 stuff = low 1st gear that a 4l80-e don't have .

How do you know you have a problem? At this point all you've said is that you have a fluid leak. Might just be one loose coupling. Would be a waste to rip out a tranny without doing some diagnostic checking first.

see post #4.
I will get it sorted out this weekend. I still have Dads Toy-oater to drive. Plus this is motivating me to get the diesel 'burb running.

I miss my burbs! The Toy-oater feels like a go-cart now!

I cranked it over this a.m. to see what was happening. The outgoing cooler line had loosened up. Really loosened up. Like only a couple of threads loose.
Tightened her up, replaced the fluid, runs like a top! All I can say is Thank You Jesus!

And special thanks to Mr Greg Ducato. Great guy!

Winning post of this event! I like to hope for small problems but prepare for the worst...

Hey, that's my post! :thumb:

Glad this turned out to be such a minor thing. :woot:

Yeah, me too. I just find it odd it would get that loose that quickly. I constantly check the fluid levels and I can see under the truck as I approach it at the end of the day. No leaks, no drips, no puddles. I'll just chalk it up to my good karma....:pimp:
