So a couple months ago, wife and I were looking for a period correct color to paint the 78 K5 I've been working on. Find some pics of a sweet 75 in a color I can't recall ever seeing, Moss Gold.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, I find a nice 75 and I end up getting it, wanted one since I was a kid.

Tonight I open the glove box to Toss in the insurance card, look at the option sheet and holy crap guess what I find.

Truck was originally 181L Moss Gold!!! Apparently a really rare color that was only available for 75-76!

I though this thing was white, it's in primer and has been put together using all the best parts of a 85 Silverado, and the firewall is white. So I figure it was originally white.

From what I gather Moss Gold was super rare, and usually special order color in 75-76, it's similar to dark gold but with a green tint. In the K5 at least they were all two tone with white or tan stripes and white tops. This is going to be a real bitch to get painted.

I've found exactly 4 pics of this color online and the one I first linked may be a custom mix as it looks like it has larger flake or a pearl in it, something that pops.

I really do too, when I thought it was white, I was actually leaning towards 1970 Corvette Donnybrooke Green.

Now the fun part will be trying to get what is apparently a rare as shit color mixed for a panel test.

OK, thats it, I need to quit coming here. You know the old saying, when you are in a movie theater and the movie starts repeating what you just saw, its time to go home.........

Paging Chief Brody, Paging Chief Brody.........

Any GOOD paint place with have the factory color paint chips, and should be able to mix it up for you.

Did I miss something?

Just one of the longest, most involved build ever. Chief Brody went though weeks and weeks trying to find that color while building a duplicate of the Amity Jaws blazer.
Its a heck of a read.
He went from just asking about Rust Bullet to getting in-depth lessons on painting, welding, body work, pretty much everything necessary to build a blazer from scratch.

Here is the beginning of the thread.....

You will notice it started in 2011. He worked on it for 6 years! Its a tribute to his hard work, that I honestly cannot say if your second picture is his truck or the one from the movie. I'm pretty sure its his due to the jaws tag.
If you dig through that huge thread, you will find his work on finding the correct paint color. You have an advantage on him, in that for a long time he did not even know the name of the color.
The photobucket fiasco trashed a bunch of his pics, but he has been working hard to restore them all.
If you start on the thread, settle down for a long but interesting read. It reads like a good novel.

Hey, that's not my Jaws Blazer. That one in your picture is Moss Gold and the correct Jaws Blazer color is GM #527 Sunset Gold.

The paint store I went to had all the old PPG Ditzler books with references. They were able to find the actual mix for the #527 and not have to color match a paint chip. I am sure they can do that at almost any automotive paint store.

Well I've made up my mind, she's gonna get painted original color and I'll redo the interior in saddle tan.

Just too unique not to, I dunno if anyone has production numbers but there can't be too many if I can only find two pics online.

Just looking at the Slosh Brochures for the 1975 Blazer, there were fewer standard colors offered that year I believe. I can say with fair certainty that Catalina Blue was a most popular color and there are likely less of the other colors.
