I don't usually work on my blazer at my house since i don't have a lot of tools or that much expertise, so when I plan on doing big projects I trailer it to a friends house about an hr away, he loves helping and is very knowledgeable on squares. Went there this morning with a list of things for us to get done. One of them being to figure out why my t case won't stay in gear or why it won't even go into 4 low at all. And figure out when I can get it into 4 hi why the front end still doesn't feel right. Pulled the case and found lots of black and greyish fluid and also found that the low range shift fork is broken, and the hi range one has a crack. Then I go to pull the front diff cover and find no fluid, lots of metal, pinion bearing has no teeth, and the rest of it looks like crap. So now I'm thinking it'll just be cheaper to find another 208 and another 3/4 ton Dana 44. Or might be time to swap a Dana 60 if it's cheap enough. So yea, had a great day

Better to find out now instead of out in the boonies...

Damn I hate auto select/correct.

.

Yeah--if he thought today sucked--wait till tomorrow!....

I'd rather find things about to fail in my driveway, not on a trip at 65 mph..:yikes:..sounds like both those issues were a ticking time bomb..

Should be able to find those parts easy with a good amount oh TX members here.

I agree, glad I found it now.

And yes already got the t case issues resolved. Now just deciding if I want to rebuild current axle or buy another 44. 60 is out of the question at this time, limited funds

I would say rebuild what you got if your on a budget... d44 pinion bearing isn't that bad of a job just take your time.

It's cheaper in most cases to just replace the axle. You can buy a half ton with the same gear ratio and put everything from the knuckle out on the new axle to make it 3/4 ton.

If it was running without oil for a long time I'd worry about the housing and bearing locations being damaged too.
