PLEASE have the torque converter flushed at a tranny shop ! It can't be flushed by us back yard wrench monkeys. All that shiny metallic crap in your pan is also in your TC.

buy a new TC. ive never bothered with flushing, i'd rather not take a chance.

Joe rebuilt the trans and installed a new convertor after his mishap.
Joe, what happened now, did you not get the convertor seated properly before install and end up jacking up the pump and or convertor?
His theory, which he may find is right or not when he gets into it, was that he did not assemble the pump halves correctly.
Here are his remarks.
After he rebuilt it, it had a whine right from the start. Which got worse. He pulled the drain plug after only a couple of miles, and found steel dust on it.
When he looked in the drain pan, the fluid was shiny.
My worries, and everybody else, is that just changing the pump and a quick flush will not get enough of the metal out.
He is offline, and probably under it now, so I hope he will read some of these before he puts it back together or in.

tight tol in valve body valves alone can bind up from that stuff.
if my tranny i would have torn it all down and cleaned and replaced any ? items as i would not wana do it a 3rd time.
i got to swap a 4l60-e 4x4 version 3 times in 1.5 weeks for a guy. he paid each time. but i was glad it ended 3rd time with good reman job.
and this was full shop and lift and tranny jack.

I know exactly what's happening inside the thing and I'm fully aware of the risks I'm taking. If it blows up again, it blows up. In that case, it's getting an NV4500.

Did you get a chance to drive it after you finishedputting it back up today??
No...spent a lot of time waiting around for friends to show up to give me a hand. Only had time to stick the trans in and a couple bolts in the crossmember. I was also just plain worn out. I never sweated so much in one day as I did today. I'll finish it up tomorrow, won't be able to test drive till mon or tues.
