Chevrolet could have just brought that trailblazer up from Brazil instead of making this Prius clone thing in Mexico.
Or have been really bold and cut the frame length of their current full size Duramax powered truck and truly recaptured the Blazer.

I watched the gm video on it today at the dealership. I knew it was coming. But nobody had seen it until today.
I really don't care what they called it. If the build quality and features follow what the new Traverse has, it's going to sell well. Don't mean I get a ton of work out of them in the service dept, but maintenance pays too.
Everyone needs to understand that GM never let go of the rights to the name. They still do on Nomad, Bel Air, Biscayne as well as most of the familiar name through all the brands. This keeps them under their control and they can slap it on any pos they want.
Let's face it, us full size guys are in the minority when it comes to SUV's. The market is in crossovers. You all mentioned someone in your family owns a Murano, Cherokee, Lexus, ect. Can you blame them for going after the market?
The market is not there for a a body on frame off road centric suv the size of a K5 or bronco. Tahoe's and suburbans are not off road centric anymore, so don't count them and they aren't selling as well as they did before. Cuv's with 7 passenger seating are killing Tahoe, Armada, expedition and Sequoia. Why not they have the same space and better fuel mileage. Add to the mix CAFE fuel economy standards and it adds the other reason a full size suv is going extinct. So between the market going cuv and fuel economy standards that will continue to be set higher and higher, there is no flipping way gm is going to put out anything like us in the minority here like.
I'm really surprised Ford is going through with the bronco, but from what I've seen it will compete with the Wrangler and not with the rest of the body on frame SUV's.
Time will tell on this. But I'm not bothered by the name.

I agree with everything you said except the name part. That “thing” may be badass in the niche it is in but I truly think the Blazer name is does not deserve

I think this will impact pricing for k5s. The new K5s are not true to its roots. It will hurt the prices of K5s.

Doesn't mean I don't think its gay. You are correct about the market though...cause 99% of people buying vehicles now are complete dip-shiz's that know absolutely nothing about vehicles. Gotta appeal to the soccer moms out there (just typing those words makes me realize why I don't like most people I meet, haha).
But I 100% agree with @Fastereddie, naming that thing a blazer is complete garbage. Name it some other hippie homo name like all the rest of the crossovers. If you are gonna call something a blazer, better make it resemble the vehicle that made the name iconic in the first place. Just imagine if when they re-released the Camaro, if they went away from the retro 69 styling and made it look like every other 4 door sedan and still called it a Camaro (same applies to the Mustangs too)? You think they would have sold as well as they have? Nope. You think that would have pissed people off? I think so...just like calling that piece of shiz a blazer is gonna piss off more people than you think

It's a Chevy Equinox dressed up in Kia Sorrento clothes w/ a Lexus grill and the ground clearance of a gerbil cage.
This is not supposed to be a K5 and nobody has called it that. Nor has GM implied it's some kind of truck. Just re-use of a name - like the S10 Blazer, GMT 400- based Blazer and Trailblazer.
The best we could have hoped for would be a shorter Tahoe. The worst would be something like this. Just ignore the name and don't worry about it. None of the other classics are coming back either.
Saying somebody is going to actually wheel one of these on something more than a graded dirt road is just as unlikely to happen as any of the other brands CUV's on the market right now. Hell, try to take a '15 or newer Tahoe off the dirt road to anything with some lumps to it. You'll be ripping off the lower air dam that sits 6" off of the ground in about 5 minutes on the trail.
I'm sure GM did a LOT of marketing/focus group action and got the message that the Blazer name was well received. The auto industry is a bunch of whores anyway, so reusing the name is just par for the course. Like I said, they aren't looking at our small minority.
As far as the new Blazer affecting the values of the old ones, I doubt anybody is going to see it drop. First Gen K5's are SMOKING hot in the collector market right now and commanding a premium. Squares are right behind it value-wise. If anything the re-introduction of the name is going to bring back a spotlight to the older ones in a good way. Look at the article that's been floating around on the internet about the history of the Blazer recently. Any guesses why that came back to the forefront again? Marketing.. Those SOB's are slick.

Ford did that back in 1987 with their press releases about their upcoming 1989 Mustang. Modern styling, front wheel drive, four cylinder engine, and lots of Mazda goodness. Good idea, right?
It went over like a lead brick because people liked the Fox body in its (then) current form.
I don't see that happening now because nearly every new car buyer has forgotten what anything from 1973 was like. Even the last year square Blazers are nearly 30 years old now (and 1st gens are downright ancient!). They're not destroying a beloved nameplate. They're pulling a nameplate out of the landfill of forgotten and unloved cars.
