Welp, the 2019 Chevy Blazer dropped today...

95K doesn't go as far here on the east coast as say, ID; We have state income tax anywhere from 9% to 5% and in my case LOCAL tax which, in my case is 60% of state (because i live near the big city........). We have sales taxes anywhere from 8.5% to 5.75%. Everything is more expensive here. Gas is definitely more expensive here than most places.

The only thing that needs to be apologized for is that Blazer. Nobody should be ashamed at what they earn or make apology for it. Count your blessings, and if you don't have many, take inventory and try to figure out why. If you aren't where you want to be financially, then do something about it. It might require moving, it might require education, it might require changing everything you do. We all make choices throughout our lives and those can determine where we are, how we live, how much we earn...the only thing that really matters is what kind of person you are and how you treat others and in my case, I also believe in God's blessings.
But either way, we all sail our own ship. Be thankful.
 
The original purpose of the 1st Gen Blazer was to knock off the Jeep and it was a success. Well the Jeep still looks like a Jeep. Maybe if the Blazer had kept the styling of the original Blazer....
My friend ordered a new loaded Rubicon a few years ago, drove it 2 years, and sold it for a profit.
Jeep owns that market with no competition.
The market for the Blazer never went away IMO. The Blazer kept changing until it was no longer desirable. Epic failure on the part of design and marketing.

Oh that's right, since the styling is an exact copy of the current Nissan/Ford/Acura/Honda/Hyundai/Toyota CUV, the only drama was disbelief mixed with hatred.
 
When I pull up to a red light with one of my daughters or my wife with me they get embarrassed.
I’m sitting there with the windows down in my redneck ‘72 K5 with the 480 hot cam LS and I ease my foot off the brake just enough that it barely starts to move and the jar from the camshaft shakes our heads back and forth, I think it’s cool because I’m old school like that.

All the junk They make today is indistinguishable. I mean they as in all of the manufacturers. They seem to think all i was is cup holders and ways to plug in phones. They are trying to get the 18 year olds. Hell, my son is 17 and really does not care about driving? GM seems to screw it up the most. At least fords TTB was a halfass d44. I know they make what the market wants. But damn, throw a bone to the purests. A real K 30 with a dana 60 in front. I think they might be suprised at the sales numbers. Look how many new Challengers you see as supposed to Cameros?

When I show a picture of a K5 to a millenial (if they have any interest in cars) they always have the same response. “That’s Awesome! What is it? Hello GM!! The market is there. You’re just in denial!

In person when a young person sees my 1974 Blazer, they they think it's something I made out of a truck....I have to tell them that GM actually made these...funny. It is a fact that the newest generation of people are losing interest...they will never view vehicles they way that we did and still do.

I'll try not to go down sentimental road again, but we had cars and trucks and radio when we grew up. We learned to work on them. We spent our childhoods outdoors. Learning to drive was HUGE deal and getting a car was a huge step in becoming an adult. We dreamed about it for years before...

That dynamic has changed because of technology.

You are right there. Denial.the way i see it. Ford did not take a baleout from the guv. So the rest are slaves to what they want.why do you think the F series sells the best? Hmm? SFA super dutys come to mind. I have alway been a GM guy. But their chit sucks? I,m not buying it. Make something i want.
 
But back to Mr. McGrath; If they do a sequel (and everything has a sequel these days), then they should call it "Breakdown." This will entail the mental and spritiual breakdown that Mr. McGrath went thru causing him to become a jerkoff.

There could be a tie-in to the star wars series; Remember how Luke(Mark Hamill) eventually got reunited with his father (Darth Vader) in Return of the Jedi? In the Corvette Summer sequel, it will turn out that McGrath IS Kenny's father(as well as possibly Vanessa's.....maybe....maybe not...) He, (McGrath) will eventually turn things around and do things the right way, eventually turning against the thieves in the end.

Thinking about this more, i'll stop posting the above nonsense----it's wasting bandwidth and not really providing much to the discussion(which in itself may be a waste because i don't think the new blazer is necessarily a winner...............)

But the takeaway is if a high school teacher (which i consider to be an ok profession) had trouble making the payments on a suburban in 78, then what makes GM think the average person can do it now with an even higher price?

I disagree with this. This new blazer is still a Jeep knockoff, it's just copying the Cherokee instead of the Wrangler. Even just looking at Jeep sales alone, Cherokees/Grand Cherokees outsell the Wrangler by almost two to one. Even though they have a dozen direct competitors and the Wrangler doesn't have any direct copies (until the new Bronco comes out). The Cherokee-esque market is much bigger than the Wrangler market. People buy almost anything labeled as a crossover these days. How can you blame companies for following the money?
 
And for all the griping...how many of you guys would throw down $100,000 for a brand new K30 Blazer, built exactly the way you want it? I'm guessing not very many, because there are plenty of aftermarket shops that will build you a perfectly restored K5 of any year for less than that.

I know I'm not dumping $100k into any car. So GM has very little incentive to care about my taste in expensive frame-based vehicles.
