Well finally got a chance to go wheeling today, the weather was actually nice up here too. I also got aroung to building a bumper for myself.

No action shots...sorry.

Just some dunes, sand, mud, and rocks. Good times as usual.

No problems until the drive home :doah:

Going over a section of three bridges going 50 mph, my transfer case stated making a noise............. then BAM, BANG, CRASH, SMASH.

Oh crap, right over a huge bridge with a 2.5' gaurdrail. My driveshaft finally let go and landed in middle of the two lanes. Pulled over called AAA, and retrieved me shaft.

Checked the damage, and oh *&^%#@. My transfer case was spewing fluid, cracked almost in two. :D

Well at least we didn't fly off the bridge. To make things even worse I was on the phone for 30 min. with AAA only to get a dumb tow truck driver with a pathetic truck. Oh I can't tow modified vehicles....AAA no no. Blah, blah, blah. So the stupid guy continues to check out my truck, cool man, how much lift 10"? Um no 5". No way, theres no way with 40's.

Long story short, the guy pulls away as I call another tow truck company. After two and half hours, even watched the sunset, and $75 later I was home.

Oh well, time for a doubler, triple stick, and HAD cv shaft.

I'm also going to cage it while it's down.

Jeeze man, what were you doin? :p:

About the AAA guy, had that happen once, the drivers can do whatever they want. AAA is paying them to tow the vehicle no matter how big or small it is. Called 'em back and told the lady I was in a neighboring town so they called a different station. When that driver called me I told him where I really was and he didn't have a problem with it.

one statement of wisdom when talking to AAA. im only 17 and have come to this conclusion...tell them straight up that you need a flat bed tow truck. those dinky little ones you see towing cars just dont want to deal with a truck. so, as soon as they are asking about your vehicle, tell them that the only way to get your truck moving would be with a flat bed. dont let them tell you anyother way of towing your truck.

Ya the thing is I've never ran into a problem with AAA before. It turns out to be the independent tow truck companies you have to deal with. Apparently the one here in Eureka sucks. I forgot to mention he gave me the run around about the flatbeds being out of town (i saw one drive by while I was waiting).

Anyways back in Lake Tahoe, the tow truck company had no problems towing it without a flatbed.

AAA will be getting the bill!

Psychotic, I never thought about specifically requesting a rollback, that's a good idea.

:doah: Jesse, almost forgot, the new bumper looks awesome man.

I destroyed the case driving 50 mph on that bridge. I think a bearing seized up or something, I will be taking it apart to examine it soon. The case was on its way out anyways :D

the t-case cracked in half....dont think it would be safe to cap and drive it home, but thats jus me :haha:

sorry to hear ,

i know what you mena about aaa.. they suck!
i will never use them again. twice i used them and sat on the side of the road
for hours.

shame your not closer... going to take a np208 to the boneyard.... :doah:

Thanks for the consideration, but I'm going triple sticked doubler, with as flat of belly as possible.

Yukon jack- It was overdue :D , Thanks, and thanks.

that's almost exactly what happened to my 208, but it was completely in 2, all that was holding the tail part of it on there was the speedo gear line.. stupid aluminum..

I think I have an extra 208 tailshaft housing sitting in the garage, and some other 208 parts...

when my 91 burb w/ 12inches of lift and 42s on died on me i called AAA and specifically requested a hd wrecker due to the fact that most flatbeds would put it too high and it would hit the heavier branches above the road. well they showed up with a flatbed and we had to detour 40miles out of the way to clear bridges alone hit a couple of branches but it didnt break the windshield so i didnt care. we measured the height from ground to top of my burb while it was still on the truck and it was 12' 5".

Woah!!! Thats some carnage! :eek1:
:D
