I use 3/16" fine-thread grade 8 bolts and round the head off ... chuck the bolt into the drill and run the head around the bench grinder, what we call the "poor man's lathe."

Socket head screws also work, though I'd prefer fine thread over coarse.

I picked up some Gr 8 socket head bolts and hardened nuts for mine.

O'Reilly auto parts sells center pins, I assume others do to. The ones I've seen are always in a Dorman box so any parts house that carries Dorman parts should carry them. The kid probably won't know what the hell you're talking about though. I always end up digging around the bins and drawers myself. Goodluck.

Watch out with ORD & springpins. They won't have them in stock and will delay your order a week or two and never call you and tell you your order is delayed. You will have to call them to figure out why your order isn't showing up. Ask me how I know.

Yes socket head capscrews are great spring pins. Ground down grade 8 bolts work also. Most 4x4 shops carry them in stock if they are worth a crap.
