hello, were do you guys put a spare tire? i have 35s on my rig, does any one have it mounted on the tail gate? like on a hinged thing(i dont know what to call it) but it swings open so you can open the tail gate. can you post pics if ya got one, id like to make one my self but i dont know how to mount it to the body by one of the tail lights. i hope youall will understand what im saying

I've got mine on the cargo floor. It's a 33" tire but there looks to be room for a 35".

I'm going to build a false floor over it. And there is space next to the spare in which I'm going to make pull-out drawer for extra storage.
 
Thats a good idea, I dont want to loose my rear floor so that would be a good option /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I have the same problem!

However, I am building one for my self- very amature welder. big thick welds! I am tring to get better so that I can weld an extension to my cage to hold new(used) seats.

Check out some photos.

About the hinge: I bought 3/4" axel and 2 berrings for a smooth swing.. The bumper will have the axel welded to it, and the berrings will be mounted at the end of the tire gate. The berrings will slip onto the axel and have a bolt and washer in the top to keep it frm comming off.

I would like some ides for latching the gate shut, and rattle resistant?

Has anyone tried to put a spare on the roof. Mabey with one of the storage racks that are made for the roof. It would be more difficult to access, but it would'nt block your rear view and that's one less thing to move to open the rear gate.
 
I stick mine up on the roof.
It's strapped to the stock roof rack, but once I get a better one it'll go on that as well.

Here is some of DP's work on my truck. Mounted is a 35 on a 16.5" rim. Will be hanging a 40 from it in a month or so. I also have a second spare that I keep on the inside of the truck.
