What’s wrong with my nv4500s?

So current angle finder doesn’t fit on the top of the t case yoke (neither does my cell), off the bottom it says 7*. You suppose this is workable, placement wise?

And for the diff side, is this placement proper? With the ujoint strap having some adjustment, seems like it could lead to discrepancies.

….after I saw the picture I realized the bolt was loose. I’ve tightened it.

Well there you go - that may have been the vibration.

It's true with that kind of yoke it's hard to measure there. I'm not even sure it's machined straight on that surface. You could try a spacer that's just a little smaller in diameter than the cap, so you're measuring off the U-joint.

I’d take that in a heartbeat, but the shaft just got reinstalled and didn’t go down the road like that.

Good idea on the spacer, thank you.

Hmmm… looks like I need to rotate my driven member.

Am I understanding correctly that the pinion needs to be pointed at ground for things to be happy?

I’d also wonder if you have a heat shield or something grounding out on the trans or t-case that could be the source of the noise.

You nailed it!

Heat shield on the PS exhaust manifold. the mounting holes rusted out and is no longer fastened and when it moves around it rattles.

Awesome man!

A blind squirrel finds a nut sooner or later. I’ve run into loose heat shields enough at the dealership I never overlook them.

I bang on stuff, and listen for noises anytime I under a vehicle, just an inspection habit.

The directions this handicapped squirrel received are very helpful and much appreciated. If let to my own devices I'd be halfway through a tranny rebuild wondering why I can't find anything wrong.

Thanks for sharing knowledge.

Thanks, I'll add that to the lessons learned.

Another thing this thread is showing me is that I have to do a better job a product selection.

Bad choice of exhaust hangers, melted right through.

I had this in a drawer, so it went in.

Similar to the anchor motor mounts: I thought I was doing something, scratch it off the list, only to have to come back and do it again. :doah:
